German Grand Prix 2013, Nürburgring - Race 9/19

Well that's it and game over RB have won the lot again as I don't see Merc doing well and they was the only]
team that could put the pressure on in the WCC.

i agree with that statement, although it does mean lotus could improve in the standings, which is much more important :p

I was actually quite supprised to see the camera guy etc not having to wear some sort of helmet, Yeah the hit was nasty but imagine if his head struck the floor? I'd never thought about it before.

Yeah, when you look at it in context it seems odd.

The mechanics have to wear fireproofs and helmets when working on the cars in the pits, yet Ted and the camera men can stand just as close to the cars wearing shorts and a shirt.

I often see this mentality, in my role.

People tackling the problem and not the root cause.

Hire quadcopter with cameras attached, pilot flies, camera man frame and focus for us telly watchers!

As cool as that'd be, I couldn't see people trusting them manoeuvring around above peoples heads. Which is a shame, as they'd get some awesome video footage if flown well!

Great article by Will Buxton. I am baffled why they aren't bringing in something to make it less likely that the tyres aren't attached.

The FIA have gone bonkers and basically ruined F1 TV coverage.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/108716

ALL TV crews and media personnel banned from the pitlane during ALL F1 sessions! How utterly retarded!

If this extends to all sessions for all support series at F1 events too, it basically means the pitlane is off limits for the whole weekend.

Ted is out of a job.

Wow, TV coverage is going to be really suckage now. We'll get a shot of the car pitting from the FOM crew on the pit wall but thats about it...

I've always thought that if I were in a team the media lurking about the place would be an unwelcome distraction. Probably taking the opportunity to get all non-essential folk out of the way.

Without the media there wouldn't be much of an F1. Lose the TV and you lose the money really. Strange way for them to go about things, but what else do we expect from the FIA?

typical Todt suddenly throwing around bluster and press releases. Funny how he's coming up for reelection soon!

They should be looking at the tyres and the unsafe releases, not banning people from the pit lane. They're doing it rong.

Great, so that means no pit lane walking by the anchor and co. or more importantly Ted in the pit lane. He'll be restricted to the Paddock instead I guess, awesome! :(

Also how long before the grid walks banned and all media are banned from the grid as well, when something explodes or catches fire?

The ban is for all F1 sessions. If there isn't an active session then I assume they will be allowed in the pits. This should still allow anchor's to present from there, and for Pinks to catch the drivers pre race, etc.

It sounds like all pit coverage will be from static FOM cameras on the pit wall, and remotely commentated by pitlane reporters either on the pit wall, or in the paddock.

Stupid idea if you ask me.

Can Ted, Gary and co not just go in all the garages through the back door from the paddock side rather than the pit side? Suppose it depends on how they define the boundaries of the pitlane really!

The FIA have used a sledgehammer to crack a nut here really, the BBC report on the statement seems to suggest this is just a blanket ban while they decide how to proceed long term so it might not be permanent I guess if they can come up with a safer way of non essential staff being around.
