Almost 8 years to the day since the truck terror attack on a Berlin Christmas Market there's been another incident in Magdeburg tonight (around 90 miles from Berlin).
Reports that a Saudi national (a doctor who has worked in Germany since 2006) drove a rental car through the market; he has been arrested since; German media also reporting that there may have been explosives in the car so sounds like an ever worse scenario may have been avoided.
Reports of 2 killed but some reports of double figures - horrendous to see anytime but especially this time of year.

Of course it's "almost to the day": it was a Christmas Market.

Big security lapse here you can see the video on social media how that car first got in and allowed to get that speed to hit so many people.

Most of the markets in Germany are pedestrianised and have bollards etc to prevent this from what happened before, my friend come back from Nuremberg markets a few days ago he said police stopped cars from going close.

Really sad news sounds like toddler died to, people going to have life changing injurys needing months of hospital treatment at a time of celebration :(

they have something badly wrong in their head to even think about harming random innocent people like this.

This is one of the reasons I don't go to Christmas markets. The other reasons are I don't like people, Christmas or markets.
How did they get past the car ramming barriers of peace?

Reports are saying that he worked there for 18 years as a doctor.

I'd be interested to know what the hell motivated him to do this. It's not exactly your standard muslim terror suspect (if we can generalise)

Yeah it seems a strange one, generally in Germany when we've seen attacks or more isolated knife attacks its been young refugees or failed asylum seekers.
Not older, clearly educated and trained doctors who are legally resident there.

How the hell did the vehicle get upto that kind of speed, wasnt the market pedestrianised?

Guess a byproduct will be more concrete barriers of peace everywhere and more "this is fine" memes.

They use them all the time near, me seems to be a permanent installation by the Arena.

I've often wondered if they are really needed anymore, think of the money it cost to make all these barriers, especially for one religion it seems

The video is sped up, you can see that with how fast the people are walking. If it's the video I've seen anyway.
