Getting a receipt

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a receipt from a previous transaction in-store?


I bought an external hard drive from a high street store but it's now died, and the company will only take it back for RMA if I have proof of purchase, but I don't have the receipt any more.

Anyone think I would be able to go in and get another one printed off even if it was over a year a go...

Did this a few times back when I worked for a popular high street retailer. If they took your info for any reason it will be easy, if not they may just print you out a random one they find. If you ask nicely.
 
Apparently a copy of my statement showing date and where I bought it from isn't enough, so I'm going to have to wait until I get back to Aber to see if I can get a receipt from the store there.

Also the bloke at Buffalo called me the wrong name so I can't be bothered dealing with them now.
 
If you know the date and rough time of purchase you may request an additional receipt instore, I would assume they'd keep a record of all receipts printable from the office computers. I know companies I've worked for previously had the ability to do this.
 
Proof of purchase does not have to be a receipt as no store is legally obliged to provide one.

However it can be harder to provide proof of purchase without one, a bank statement will normally suffice.
 
Many retailers are now stating in their terms that bank statements are no longer a valid proof of purchase, unfortunately.

Best calling the store, tbh.
 
So I went into the store today and they said they don't do receipt re-prints. The store in question is Argos by the way.

Assuming that you paid with card they should be able to find the transaction pretty easily, although probably not from store. Certainly worth a shot contacting head office, and if they say that they're unable to provide a copy, then I'd suggest to them that in this instance they should surely accept a bank statement / card statement.
 
Well I shown them a copy of my statement with the date and place of purchase but they said that wasn't enough.

I'll try and get in contact with their head office then.
 
they have to give you a refund in casdh if you have a receipt.if you don't then they can give you a credit note which you can use to get the new one.stand your ground on the bank statement,that is enough proof you bought it.they will give in if you are strong enough.they just try their luck as most ppl give in

It's over a year old so I need to RMA it with the manufacturer...
 
This is exactly why i keep all receipts for anything i buy now for the life of the item, well, anything worth anything. I know a lot of retailers are becoming really harsh about providing receipts for any returns now. I know B&Q use to issue credit notes for returns without a receipt, but not anymore, even for stuff that's B&Q branded (if not faulty). Providing a bank statement isn't enough these days at most shops, sure it states you spent £xx amount of money on a particular date, but it could have been anything, now you're trying to pull a fast one because you've lost the receipt for something bought at another date.

Keep them receipts people :p
 
Phone Argos customer care, if you give them the date of the transaction, your card number, and the amount then they'll give you the details of the transaction which you can use in store to return the item.

I did this a couple of weeks ago.

I work for a retail company, if not in sales, and know that the till systems are back dackdated for quite a while and you can generally pick up pretty much any information from the past month. (if thats any use :p)
