Getting a tattoo

I don't have any tats at the moment. I'm 32 and always said I would get one if I found something I liked

The only thing I feel strongly enough about is Reading (the place) and Reading Football Club. So was thinking about getting a tattoo inspired by this - I honestly would die for it, it's such a big part of me.

Any advice? I'm not sure how to design it or place it.

1) have you got a tattoo?
2) Where is it?
3) Do you regret it?
4) any advice?

I'd personally advise against getting an obvious football club tattoo. It makes the team you support too conspicuous and could make you subject to violence in certain places and certain situations.

Someone I know got stabbed by a drunk man outside a club for being a Chelsea supporter because he was wearing a Chelsea shirt!

You could get a band/partial sleeve which incorporates the colours of the football club logo, and the crown and lion perhaps? :)

1) Yes, 2.
2) One on upper outer arm, one on the inside of my lower arm
3) Nope, they mean something to me and people like them. I will be getting more,
4) As Acme said i'd probably avoid getting a football club tat in an obvious place, you never know if some idiot will take offence to you being a Reading fan. Other than that just make sure you like your design and make sure you have a good meal beforehand (and take some water/snacks if it's 2 hours +).

1) have you got a tattoo?...yes 22
2) Where is it? arms,legs,chest,back
3) Do you regret it? yup
4) any advice? see question 3

A) Pick the tattoo you want.
B) Print hundreds of copies of the tattoo.
C) Stick the copies up all over your house, on the stairs, in the bathroom, on your doors.
D) Leave them there for months.
E) After say 6 months decide if you still want that tattoo or not.

Some tattoos look fantastic, when a skilled artist has designed it and it's tasteful it can be brilliant.

However 99% of tattoos I see make someone look like they are out of prison. Tacky, crap artist, bad tattooist making it look like a **** stain.

1) have you got a tattoo? Yeah too many to count
2) Where is it? Arms, chest and stomach
3) Do you regret it? No
4) any advice? Prepare yourself, it can be a long painful process.

Pay as much as you can afford it not afford. It's not an area you really want to pay the least unless you like prison style tattoos

  1. Yes
  2. Traditional location, upper left arm
  3. No, not at all
  4. Find a design that you like. It doesn't need to "mean something" to you, it can just be something you like. I spent years deciding what to go for and ended up with a tattoo that is related to something which I was involved with for many years but the design is generic enough that one doesn't look at it and think of the reason behind it.

I still look at it and absolutely love it.

Find a good tattoo artist (local recommendations are good), mine was done eight years ago but still looks as fresh as the day it was done, it's not blurred or faded at all.

I went through a number of different designs before I chose the one I went for, I printed it out and stuck it up all over the house, used it for my wallpaper, screensaver etc for many months before I decided I was happy with it.

Get your eyeballs tattooed with royal blue stripes. That will show you everyone how much you love Reading whilst retaining some plausibile deniability if you're ever in the situation that Acme mentions (I just love blue cheese, etc.).

1. Yes
2. Full left sleeve
3. No
4: 'Advice'

Goto a tattooist and ask them to draw you your 'vision' of what you want, tweak it a few times so its 100% yours and no-one elses.

Try and find it online, make sure the tattooist wasnt a lazy copy pasta lemon. Don't let the tattooist charge you for drawing it before hand, thats just bad practise. Most will want it for their portfolio anyway.

Ask to see their portfolio, many will use websites and you can just view it online and try and find someone who had a tattoo done there, the longer ago that they had it done the better. you'll see how yours will last and turn out.

If you plan on any body changes, getting fatter, getting fitter then wait until you're where you want to be before you get it done.

1. Yes
2. Shoulder blades and lower back
3. No
4. Find a good tattoo artist. Don't go to some random tattoo parlour and ask for a generic football tattoo. They are (should be) an artist, so get them to create something unique that is 'art'.

My friend is an amazing artist and has just trained in Thailand to transfer his artistry to tattoos. I'm commissioning him to design an Akuma / Gouki tattoo for my upper arm.
