Getting Idea's

OK then, fair enough it's all my fault I know, I actually played a part in attempting to kill myself because I'm that hellbent on doing so

Perhaps a 316i 1.8 16v will do :p

- I set a budget of 5500£ and haven't had many recommendations.

They just seem so highly priced for what they are and the age of them now, I know there great cars and all...

Why does every thread become a petrol v diesel debate.

Diesels are for hippies and old folk.

Petrols are for folk who like to go past 4k revs and love the smell of petrol

times changed with common rail, the gap has increased on the vast majority of engines.

with the fuel prices ever increasing, the money saved by a 'petty' 5-15mpg will surely take priority.

you can hoon a half decent derv all day long and never drop 40-45mpg, a typical equivilant petrol can drop as low as 15-25mpg.

I drive a decent derv, 2.1 with 170bhp and if I hoon it around all day I'm lucky to get 25mpg.

If I drive sensibly I get a good 42-45mpg.

Welcome to diesels around town from cold.

I think you'd get arrested long before getting home to post on the internet if you managed to get it down to 9mpg :p Most people dont even manage that around the Nurburgring let alone on public roads.

my audi a4 does a mere 18.7mpg lol count yourself lucky and i only go to work and back (10 miles each way)

It's like a utility vehicle. The dashboard is really cheap, the whole thing just feels flimsey, and most of the engines are just gutless. It's just not a very nice car at all.

The Focus is hardly the last word in build quality but it feels far more uptogether than the Astra.
