Getting over a breakup

Anyone got any advice? Im a bit of a wreck at the moment. In 2 weeks ive lost my job of my dreams, with nothing lined up and to top it off my girlfriend of 2 years is breaking up with me. She said 'i know you love me, but it doesnt feel like a relationship should to me anymore. We seem to be more like best friends than lovers'.

So ive pretty much lost everything - all i need now is a 419 to get my money and my life is officially b0rked across the board.

dont fall victim to self pity and find another job, sittin around dwelling over stuff only makes it seem a ton worse, and think about the positives, your gf was honest with you instead of dragging it all out and making it more painfull, and she didnt cheat etc so its not all bad

This

Focus on getting a new job. Once Money is coming in and you meet a new set of people, the rest will come in time.
 
I don't think there is a lot you can do atm. No matter what anyone says, you're going to feel gash. But i'll have a go anyway...

Firstly, try not to self pity.
Secondly, this is going to be as hard for your gf as it is for you and she may not be sure of it yet so don't despair.
Thirdly, if she is sure, you'll feel like crap for a few weeks and want to call her/text her, but by far the most important thing is to resist.
Fourthly, when you start chatting to another girl, you'll instantly feel better...

Out of interest, why did the relationship break down?
 
There's no easy way through it, the way I see it you've got three options;

Option 1: Clean break, forget about her, go out with your friends, enjoy being single again.

Option 2: If you really want her then do everything in you power to make things right between you and her. If this fails see option 1 or 3.

Option 3: Sulk. This is the least useful option and is quite self destructive.

You really shouldn't listen to me though as I went for option 3
 
Rule 1, ask for advice on an internet forum
Rule 2, ignore any of that advice and get on with life

Suck it all up and move on. You've lost the two most important things in your life.

Go out, get wasted, feel sorry for yourself, wake up, feel bad, sober up, start on getting a new job and girl.

That's about it. Paragraph 2 may take time but paragraph 1 is more important.

This is one of those things that you always think you'll only ever feel properly once. The next time a situation similar arises, you expect to remember the first time it did, and that you got over it and came out of it alright in the end. That's not how it works.

I have felt really rock bottom like that twice now. There is no way to really deal with it apart from try to focus on keeping yourself busy and redirecting your efforts on to other things.

I went for option 3 too... Still get a bit upset at times... I suck, which is why I'm not gonna hand out any advice....
 
Man up :p I broke up with my gf of 5 years (ok so it was essentially mutual and just how things worked out really), and am alright (ish), looking forward to the singles game...I think...hmmmmm
 
I hate it when people talk about breaking up with their girlfriend of over 3 years because mine is 3 years. We say we will never break-up to each other and I even told her this and she said 'well we will just have to be different from other people'. You can't break-up for real after two years give it a week she'll be back. I would just go the self pity route, it's good for you. Then after it will feel like a huge blanket lifted over your head.
