Hey guys,

So as a few of you may know I'm a frequent player of FPS', mainly Battlefield 3.

I originally played FPS on the Xbox 360 before making the switch to PC gaming.

One of the main reasons why I switched over was because the people on XboxLIVE irritated the bejipsies out of me, constantly I heard "Hey faggot, nice hacks" or something, I shouldn't of taken it seriously but after I had a threat via message toward me and my family I thought enough was enough and I made the switch.

I'm happy that I have as it's a greater experience and I've made some fantastic friends over it.

However something I've noticed a lot more is that there is a growing concern that gamesmanship is completley becoming void.

Take this for example.

Battlefield 3 - December - Operation Firestorm

Sniper on the roof of a building, took him down with an RPG and got kicked for "not respecting the admin". I've had this quite a lot in recent weeks and it's really starting to annoy me.

Another thing is gg, which hopefully you'll know as Good Game.

Everytime I play I always make sure to say it just before the end of a round (10 tickets) whether I'm losing or winning.

But in recent weeks it's just become a hate fest.

"lol u guys r terrible" was a notable one today.

So basically the question I'm asking is - Is gamesmanship dead now?

More and more I feel so, Dota 2 is a complete hatefest if your not winning! Hopefully CS:GO will bring back the more sporting gamers but who knows.

I agree, come across too many whiners when I play, and very few players saying GG, WP, nice playing.

In fact, generally in game chat I barely see anything but "camper", "waah that gun is for fags", etc. I seem to remember a time where you'd use it for having a conversation.. :S

It's a shame that seeing GLHF at the start of a round and GG at the end seems surprise me when I see it now, rather than it being a normal thing, but to be honest, I've given up bothering now. :(

I think MOBAs breed that kind of attitude particuarly badly, people seem to love to whine about their team, feeders, people playing their character wrong.

GG seems to be used as gloating these days , i often wonder wether the people saying it actually know what it means...

^, Pub games it's just people trying to rub in winning etc and just generally talking smack.

To be honest, only in competitive play does it mean anything, public games why would you even bother?, unless your playing with friends.

Kinda like League of Legends, people type "GG" in open chat within 5 minutes of the game, it's just another term mostly idiots use in public games.

I had a brief experiment with annoying people in game (I'm sure Defrag will back me up on this one) but remembered quickly how lame it is. I'm back to saying gg, wp, etc these days though tbh it's extremely rare that anyone else does the same...at least in more modern FPS games. My brief sojourn back into the realms of Urban Terror was a refreshing change and everyone was once again polite and friendly.

Meh, when you get a game whose target audience are people who can jump on for 30 minutes, shoot stuff and leave, more so when its P2P not server based, its hardly a surprise that the feeling of community has vanished.

Too many games have people incapable of using there keyboard. No random banter or anything similar, just complete silence from 95% of players in 95% of matches.

This is a big reason I prefer pc gaming , sick of 14 year old "xbox gangsters"
Startcraft 2 was the first game I really saw respect between players. A simple glhf at the start and gg at the end can go a long way.
Now whenever I am playing lol I do that same

Lack of servers with regulars is the cause of this. When you play with the same guys all the time a mutual respect builds up.

TF2 is generally fine for this I find. My regular servers have a bunch of regs I recognise on, even if I don't actually know them and there's generally some chit chat.

I think that part of it newer games, particularly on consoles, don't have server browsers and people use the matchmaking feature. This just creates a server and dumps randoms on to it so these people don't care who they are playing with.

On a CS:S server that you have frequented for years you are going to be nice to the other regulars and get involved in the game a lot more. In CODMW all you care about it how high your score is and unlocking that next wotsit for your favourite gun.

Yeah, there's usually an idiot or 2 about. It becomes depressing when they are the admins, which happens more than it should. But I think it's always been that way. And yes, you are in fact talking about sportsmanship. Gamesmanship is more about bending the rules to win.

It has long gone, back when I played quake it was common curtesy to not spawn kill someone. Also in UT you could tell if someone was chatting so you left them be. Now all I see is noob this noob that it my team is poo. One over you could have a chat with folk and congratulate folk on a game well played now ppl are more likely to be called a hacker. Also the faster the game the worse the behaviour

Indeed. The no spawnkill rule is one that I learnt during my Quake years but these days not spawnkilling someone means that they shoot you as you attempt to get away from them. Suffice to say, if I'm not playing an old school game I will happily spawn kill anyone.

gg brah umad ? pick your game up low plus stop camping prone glitching fag nade whoring tank driving hardcore nab.
