Nah, that’s a Beeb.

Which was designed and made by... Acorn. So still 'an Acorn', albeit not in branding.

OP, I always wondered what happened to the kids from the special class. Now we know - they grow up and post on OcUK (when they're not watering their pine cones acorns). :p I jest, of course, but unless you're trolling that's some serial roflcopter.

Gonna have to bump this because...

Apparently Snoop Dogg also discovered acorns at a ripe old age!

*** video removed due to swearing ***

(Just google "Snoop Dogg pine cone")

So I found this Acorn in my school grounds when I was at primary school.

I remember thinking you don’t see these all the time and I brought it home.

I’ve had it ever since (I'm now 40) but it still appears to be alive :D

During winter it will close up and then come this time of year, it does this.

I lifted it just now to sprinkle some water on it and a seed fell out! Surely it cannot be still alive?

Quite pleased I have kept it all these years being honest.

Edit to include coin for scale :)

You're not this guy are you? @9 mins

I'm actually going to reply to the post rather than comment on the coniferous misidentification:

Yes they do that, no its not alive and yes thats how they disperse seeds lots of plants do this the dead tissues expand when soaking up water and since they expand at different rates this makes the seed vessel open releasing the seeds at a suitable time i.e. when theres plenty of moisture for the seeds to germinate, its all done mechanically. Have a nice day.
