** GIBBO TAKES A 980 G1 FOR A RIDE AND OcUK HAS EXCLUSIVE ON 980 G1 **

Setup a fan curve, the stock cooler is designed to throttle before it builds up fan RPM, pretty dumb but that is how the NVIDIA drivers currently operate. So setup a fan curve and you will be under 70c with ease and no more throttling. :)

NVidia told me it void warranty :(

That is because NVIDIA have to assume that everyone is stupid, because you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be at least one person who sets the fans to a constant 10% speed to keep it quiet, and then fries the card. :p

Ignore what they said, if it breaks they will never know you set up a fan profile. Same goes for if you overclock it.

Others don't have stock, we do! :)

Gigabyte are directing stock to ourselves, we priority over our competitors with Gigabyte because they like us more, afterall we do reviews and show end-users what this new stuff can do. I don't see our competitors showing the end-users what these cards can do and helping out with questions. :)

Nonetheless, it makes the premium for this card that much more over some of the other cards. Was on the point of buying one myself at £299.99 - is the extra (or "extra extra") really worth it over other cards like the MSI, for example?

This.

You could always wait until other retailers get stock and OCUK get more. The way i'm reading it is OCUK are charging an extra £20 because they are the only ones with it atm, basically making a quick extra profit while they can.

This is indeed correct, our run-rates dictate we can sell 50+ per day, we have less than 50 left and are only stockist and Gigabyte can't ship us more for another week.

As such we'd rather slow the sales. Once they go to pre-order we shall move back to £299 :)

I think if overheated the simple can see chip is damaged burned

Don't forget, ASIC percentage isn't a metric of quality, it is an indication to specific properties and the desired percentage depends on how you want to run the card, usually.

Perhaps in some cases (though it is unlikely).

I fried an MSI GTX660 by overclocking/overvolting it to hell, maxxing out the fan speed and running it at 100% load 24/7 for about 6 months. MSI didn't bat an eyelid, and sent me a new one. :p (don't do this)

Anyhow, we weren't suggesting that you do anything to fry the chip.

If you set up a custom fan curve you will be keeping the temperatures lower than at stock, so there is nothing to worry about. :)

Ok.. will wait it out :D (and hope for some today only special... ;) )

You'll be fine, you really have no reason to worry. It's not something they will ever be able to determine at all, and even then the card should throttle (lower its clock speed and voltage) if your fan curve causes it to overheat.

you mean if I set higher rpm always spin faster?

You are essentially just making the fan spin a bit faster yes. :)

For example, instead of it being at 25% speed at 50 degrees, you could set it to 35%; and instead of it being at 40% speed at 70 degrees, you could set it to 60%.

on stock clocks I get power 99%, gpu clock 1240, memory clock 3506, temperature 83c-85c, gpu usage 99%, fan speed 75% if I overclock I think card burn :(

You need to stop worrying, your card isn't just going to start burning. There are robust protections in place to protect from this sort of thing. Typically the worst that happens with a bad overclock is that your PC freezes and requires a hard reset.
