Gibbo

Gibbo what suspension setup do you have on that beast?

Hi there

More than you can shake a stick at! :D

Well its got the Saleen suspension kit which is shocks, springs and front anti-roll bar and any other Saleen standard fit parts.

I added these Steeda parts:-
Upper top camber plates (camber adjusted) and gives better steering feel
G-trac brace, strut brace but below engine
billet lower trailing arms (stop wheel hop and improves traction)
adjustable upper control arm (stop wheel hop, stop axle from twisting, improves handling and traction)
Rear swaybar with HD links (stiffens car, greatly improves handling)
Adjustable panhard bar (greatly improves handling and centres rear suspension/live axle)
Panhard brace (handling improvement)

As standard with Saleen suspension handling was OK, with the above added it made a big difference to cornering ability and the cars ability to put the power down.

However now the Saleen watts link is available and people who have fitted it say its a lot better than the above setup as it allows the live axle to act more like an Independent Rear Suspension setup making the car as many put it corner like its on rails and hook the power up a lot better. So yes it is a mod I shall be getting and fitting as it will help settle the rear end down greatly especially across poorer road surfaces.

LOL yep that's a fair few tweaks, and theres me just looking at shocks and springs. :)

Think I need a bigger wallet!

Oh yes forgot to mention a chap here at work owns I think the same mustang as you (albeit maybe not as many mods!) and his version is 363!

I'm sure I remember you saying that you now enjoy the Golf so much that the Elise isn't getting enough use and will therefore be sold?

The Elise is going to be sold, but not cos the Golf is a better car. It's getting sold cos I simply don't have the time to use it and it's a shame to let it sit in the garage. It was bought as a weekend car but it rarely leaves the garage at the moment. Maybe if I get more time to myself I'll buy another but until then I might as well sell it.

Me neither, complete waste, only time you'll find me doing 56mph is for a split second as I accelerate to more suitable speeds.

From the MPG figures you post, and the fact that I distinctly remember how slowly you were going when I overtook you on the M5 after a RR day I assumed that 56mph must be your average speed.

From the MPG figures you post

Always accompanied with the speed obtained at. I drive at 70mph on the Motorway, which I know is a pretty off the wall speed to chose.

and the fact that I distinctly remember how slowly you were going when I overtook you on the M5 after a RR day I assumed that 56mph must be your average speed.

That must have been years ago. I was doing 70-75 and you made look like I was going backwards ;)

That's one mean looking car, glad to see it return!

I saw another very beastly looking Mustang last week, also black but the front looked even more aggresive. It looked like the whole bonnet had been raised by an inch or two, giving a really wide air intake across the width of the car...and no, the bonnet was not open! Is this something you have seen before Gibbo?

Also, I haven't seen your car in the flesh, but when I do see the pictures the one thing I am not sure looks as good as the rest is the alloys. Are they the standard Mustang ones? Have you been tempted to change them or are you happy with them?

Put it this way, today wet roundabout me in front, Slackworth behind in 330d and I could take the roundabout at higher speed without the backend jiggling wheras Slackers 330D was stepping out and could not keep up, so its certainly not a hopeless American tank and that was in the wet. :)

How about compared to a proper sports car rather than a family wagon?

Gibbo, you're comparing a car designed first and foremost with performance in mind, with 1-2k of suspension mods to a 4 door diesel saloon :p I bet with 2k of ARB and coilovers etc it'd be a different story :p

VW VR6.

If the back end is stepping out its due to being on too much power as you push the rear wheels outside the elipse. Its not 3dmark for handling.

Get the Tokico D Spec shocks, springs go with something good.

All the extra bits I added are about 1k worth, maybe a tad more.
Thanks, from the reading I have done so far a combo of Eibach pro springs and Tokico D Adjustable shocks seems to be recommended (and camber adjustment plates/bolts if needed). Good price, should drop the car by about 1.5" and improve handling

sounds a bit tame to me, not raw enough.

I'll put an end to this little competition now then, Metro 6R4 ;)

Actually on second thoughts, the 6R4 sounds almost exactly like the CSL.
