** GIBBO's GUIDE TO WHICH 290 SERIES CARD TO BUY!! **

The MSI and Sapphire got me really interested. Problem is finding whether I should get the R290X or R290 version. I also think the saphire R290X which is unavailable now might be more expensive than the MSI version.

And is there any word about upcoming blower style cards for the r290/R290x

If you're still looking, the newest version GPU-Z now shows it. Here's a snippet of mine

I am indeed as I couldn't find that thing referenced by Gibbo. Saw there was an update yesterday but didn't bother. Cheers.

Memory Info2005 I think its called, or try to sneak a peak through the heatspreader, but so far I've not seen an MSI or Sapphire without Hynix.

Is there any way you can check the Sapphire 290's you have in stock? Looking to purchase a good few of these.

Tri-X cards so far have all being Hynix. We don't guarantee it though as I am not willing to open nearly 1000 graphics cards to check and install in a PC to run a memory checker on them making them second hand. :p

Wish id seen this thread earlier today, just ordered an asus voltage unlocked but seems like i ordered the wrong card, for more money. Although the salesman said it would unlock the stream processors i think he got confused! Is there a way to stop the order before delivery tomorrow or would it already have left? Think the MSI would be better for me due to noise!

if i bought the msi 290x bf4 edition what would the chances be of getting hynix memory, also is there really that much difference between a 290 and a 290x or in the future will the they make the most of the extra streams.

I dunno what original MSI BF4 cards where to be honest. Not sure if Gibbo does either we tested a lot on air together.

If your in doubt between the two get the X. MSI 290X gaming are all Hynix from what we have seen. As are Saphhire Tri X.

Just order the MSI and refuse delivery of the ASUS, courier will return to ocuk.

Hi GIBBO, just noticed you've got the Powercolor Radeon R9 290 PCS+ OC instock.
any chance you can do a mini review compared to the others most interested in its noise levels compared to the sapphire & msi gaiming.

I am running an r9 290x with i7 4770k and my power supply is an OCZ StealthXStream 2 600w.

No problems at all :)

Load is something like 350W-400W whilst benching/gaming.

Cheers for that the1gooner. Will hopefully will get one of these ordered soon (keep having second thoughts though :(, never spent this much on a GPU before!).

Oh yes, please I beg you Sir! :D

thanks Gibbo

when ordering (say by phone) can you specify a day ? I don't mind ordering early - but wouldn't want it arriving till later in the week ?

cheers

Hi, was hoping for a bit of advice. I have the Sapphire 290x Tri-X on preorder from when it was on offer last week. I've just put in a webnote asking about an updated stock ETA and unfortunately there isn't one at the moment. I'm considering cancelling the order and ordering the MSI 290X gaming instead, which is in stock and on offer this week. Anyone with experience of both? Is there much difference between them?

For info I'll be upgrading from a pair of 6950's

edit: additional info... no plans to watercool but I may consider crossfire depending on performance and funds later in the year (specifically The Witcher 3). I'm just wondering if the Tri-X is worth holding out for I guess.
