GiffGaff unlimited net/text and 250mins for a tenner?

Yep, there really is no catch worth mentioning, I was with them for ages and was very happy. Switched only to get a Pre 3 from CPW, switching back as soon as my 12 month contract is over.

Been with Giffgaff since the beta like 2 years ago, as long as o2 is good in your area it's a seriously great deal with no catch. :)

thx lots of info on this thread, thats right if its PAYgo u cant really use more then u got right ? and also if it pops up warning your running low and voice mails are free also...
sounding very temping.

Guess just gotta get a decent phone now and move over ;)

Not quite.
You are mixing the features of Giffgaff.

If you top up with airtime credit you pay the normal rates. 10p/min calls including to the answer phone, 6p/text, daily data rate 20p for 20 mb then 20p /mb after that.

The data cost on payg will kill you on a modern phone if you aren't careful.
20mb costs 20pence but 21mb costs 40p, 30 mb costs £2.

If you buy a goodybag you get the free calls/text and data. But it only lasts for 1 month. if you run out of minutes you have to use airtime credit again, you can't just buy another goodybag.

Just switched myself last week. The O2 signal it uses seems weaker than when I was on Orange, but generally I'm extremely happy and the process went as smooth as anything.

The fact you can effectively make it into a contract with the recurring Goodybags is great too.

Yeah, joined GiffGaff with my Lumia 710, no issues apart from a data outage that seemed to be nationwide awhile back.

For a tenner a month it's ridiculously good value.

There's no catch. Your just not subsidising a handset.

It's great to port out to GiffGaff at the end of a contract and sit on it for a few months while deciding on a new contract.

Been with giffgaff for just over a year now, and what a great service. Apart from the outage they had when their server Room flooded.

I can easily east 6gb a week on their 10 pound goodybag. Good times :-P

I was considering just doing what most folk are doing buy the reoccuring goodybags for a tenner each month though.

Are you saying if I run out of 250mins I gotta use airtime credits and get charged till my goodybag arrives ?

I was hoping once the 250 mins runs out you either cant make any calls to incurr extra cost or it at least warns you you only have 10 mins credit left at least ?

By default you have notifications telling you how many minutes you have left after a call. You can turn it off via their website.

I've just ordered a sim to stick in my bb once my contract ends for £13pm you can't really go wrong!

Great plan

Yep, although if you don't keep any airtime credit your phone just stops making calls.
Personally I keep a little bit of airtime credit as some phone numbers aren't included in the bags.

I find it works out cheaper to buy the cheapest possible contract for the latest handset, throw away the sim, and put a giffgaff sim in.

£26 for a S3 with 300 mins, unlimited texts and 750mb net (that bit sucks I know). So £26 x 24 months - £30 cashback (I wont minus the 3 months half price redemption) = £594.

Sim free let's say the phone was £500 + (24 x 10) = £740

Yeah no I don't think so lol.

But I do crave for unlimited data now that I want to tether when I'm at work. Wonder how much extra t-mobile would want if I wanted unlimited data... that's if they even do it. Otherwise I guess I could get a giffgaff sim and chuck it in my old nexus one.

Let's try again shall we. Firstly I said the 'cheapest' contract available, not a 'decent' contract. That T-Mobile offer is quite good for keeping and using the sim.

I got the S3 for £90 (-£40 cashback) and £15.50 per month x 24 months.
Total = £422

I've put my giffgaff sim in, and use the £10 goodybag so £422 + (24x10) gives a grand total off: £662

That gets you:
Galaxy S3 Handset
Unlimited Internet
Unlimited Texts
250 Mins

Even though it is ~£60-£70 more then the T-Mobile offer, you get much much more with the unlimited internet. The T-Mobile offer is still very good, that's the exact deal I got for my wife. ;)
