There must have been something specific for that to happen. Find the case and I'll check otherwise it's a non issue for a normal unmarried couple living together where one doesn't make material contributions to the mortgage / outgoings.
 
So... a safe way to deal with this could potentially be, that every month, you pay the full mortgage and put her half of the payment in a savings account.

If it ever comes to the point where she leaves and it turns out she has a claim on the property, simply use those savings to buy her out. If it never happens then you have a nice pot of money to play with :)

They think paying a few bills means having a claim in someones hard earned house/savings. I don't know how any man this day and age can be stupid enough to commit financial suicide by getting married for example.

I can't be arsed to google but I'm convinced I read such an article a few years ago.

Maybe it wasn't just bills but she paid towards repairs and renovations or something.

but anyway I'd seek legal advice rather than risk half a house

If they made a contribution towards renovations and repairs then that would explain it and logically they should have some interest in a property where they have contributed towards the value.
 
We have deal, she pays the bills and I pay for everything else. ;)

Food, clothing, holidays, repairs, cars etc. Unfair to go 50/50 as I earn a lot more so they have a good life! :D
 
I'm not sure where to plant my flag between the people who have good, currently, relationships (me, others) and the other extreme who demand pre-nups/property ownership/solicitors and all of the cost and effort which that entails, based on good, historic events that they went through or witnessed.

I understand that this is not advice, just comment.
