Giving a scare

I once scared the hell out of my sister (who slows down to about 20mph when theres anything more than a slightest kink in the road, even though its NSL  ) a few times, just tearing it around corners. Theres one near me, a sharp left 90 degree corner right after a humpback bridge....second gear time but if its night you can tell if anyone is coming the other way as you can see their lights, and this time it was clear. Cue getting some air over the bridge, landing on the wrong side of the road, then belting it through the left hander, tires practically peeling off the rim. Childish and dangerous, sure, but in terms of getting a point home, it helped a bit...'We survived that didn't we?'

Nahh I don't need to drive like a nutter to scare people, I just show em my gun collection and my copy of 'Mein Kampf' :p

I only really drive fast when it's just me in the car, for much the same reasons as Fox mentioned.

Meh, you don't need to drive fast to scare the **** out of someone, as i proved. You can't tell me that a 1959 1300cc Volkswagen Beetle can in ANY way be described as "fast" now, can you? I think its absolute top speed downhill with a tail wind MIGHT have been 80mph......

Just imagine taking that road in a car with 1950's suspension, 4 wheel drum brakes, sloppy bias ply tyres, and a nutter behind the wheel that seems to have a deathwish!! :D

It wasn't that exact road (never been to Peru), but it sure wasn't much different!! :)

isn't there a road like that somewhere in Italy?
the Italian Job springs to mind for some reason.

Yep, but doesn't look as good as that one:

(It is also part of a rally course IIRC.)

"i wonder what an emergency stops like at 80" - that had me scared :p

i darent rag it much when ive got people in the car, i much prefer driving fast on my own :)

when theres 5 of us packed in i drive like im on my test, i would feel awful if anything happened

I accidently scared myself and two passengers while overtaking. Was onvertaking a two cars on a long straight, could see what was coming but it was all clear. Started to overtake, had enough room so sped up to overtake the third car.. which started to speed up! Oh crap. I plant the throttle and get passed but i have to over take another car cause he is right up this guys behind!:o As i started to get to the gap a car comes the other way :( Oh damn. Was a VERY close call trust me, nearly smashed into the back of a truck when i pulled in as well! Guy in the back seat was nearly crying, i was shaking for hours :(

I find my comment of "See you can break 140mph in 4th before the limiter" has an interesting effect, followed by "and thats the 155mph speed limiter"

Low speed drifting freaks people out, most people have no idea what a car feels like when you dont have full grip on all wheels, I really think everyone should do skid pan days as I don't batter an eyelid when theings geta bit sketchy in bad conditions and just correct and deal with it, where most people freak and react badly putting their car into something.

I've never really scared passengers because I drive sensibly when I have people with me (as a lot seem to). I have scared other cars back when I was a bit more reckless. So you want to stop me overtaking you because I'm in a Micra, ok I'll swerve right at you as I'm alongside and do an emergency stop when I'm in front. Cut me up on a roundabout because you don't want me using the outside lane and you want to race? Ok at the next one (at 2am I might add) I'll take it the wrong way and cut off your exit.

However realising what a complete **** I was I've calmed down to the point where I don't push it too much. For instance at MM3 in the twisties, given the road conditions I didn't want to push it, overcook it and wrap my car or cause somebody behind me to crash. Not worth it.

/adopts flame proof suit.

if people were taught to read the traffic, road and weather conditions better there would be no need to teach them how to correct situations like that.

prevention is a much better solution rather than leave them in their semi-ignorant state and arm them with a "how to drift"/"principles of under and or oversteer" manual

Actualy I did scare my mates by accident in my old Clio.

Was driving along doing 30Mph in a residential area and it went something liek this:

Friend (jokingly): "Do a handbrake turn here"

Me: "I can't, my handbrake's ****"

So I proceed to show them how crap my handbrake is but this time it actualy bites, back wheels lock up and we do a 180 at 30Mph luckily missing the parked cars etc.

Stupid thing to do, was at about 1am and no one around but still, the handbrake was crap, must have caught it on a good bit.

Needles to say I never tried that again and drive 99% of the time like an angel with friedns in the car, for two reasons:

1) Not to look I'm showing off

2) Ensure their saftey

:)

When I had my 306, I went round a cobbled roundabout, only 15mph or so (it had just been raining), full load of people in the car, I took my foot off the accelerator and the rear came nicely round, got it back in check and got off on the exit I wanted. I did it whilst chatting about some skydiving story, apparently my voice didn't change pitch or anything. :p I now don't really do it... though I did get the back end out with Davey_Pitch in the car coming round at a set of lights - Gilly did not witness it (he experienced it too IIRC) ;) I'll only do it with people I trust or know won't freak out really, it's not fair to people who are nervous in the car really.

You really think I'm stupid enough to cane my car in an area where there are kids on pavements? I don't think so, besides, I doubt going fast in residential areas is anywhere near as fun as doing it on a nice open road with nobody else around.

Last time I did it was the other day, at 2am, around the local B roads. Had a great time, didn't see another car.

I wasnt pointing at that your stupid, i was picking up on a comment that made it look like the only people you can hurt with your dangerous driving is the people in your car. There are a lot of new drivers on here, perhaps you should try and set an example.

Edit-90% of the B-roads i have driven on are the most dangerous, you wont see another car until you go around a bend and it ends up on its roof in two pieces.

Who said anything about dangerous driving? You make an awful lot of assumptions and it appears you know precious little about driving on country lanes.

Hint: You don't take blind bends at 60mph.

Interesting how you cant take the comment head on.

I live in the middle of nowhere so i can guarantee i am safe on country roads, but "caning it" around them as you so put it doesnt sound safe to me. I can only hope that when you do stack it you dont kill yourself or anyone else.

pretty much anyone else driving me kind of scares me as ive got a wierd thing about being out of control... just doesnt feel.. right...

however, I usually just get disapproving looks off the gf or 'Gareth, will you stop that !' ... I had a 10 minute moan at me when we took the s2k out and I decided to see how nicely it would get up to motorway speeds coming down the sliproad :o

Only becuase it's so ridiculous is barely deserves a reply.

I don't particularly care what it sounds like to you. It's my car, I'm driving, and I know what is and isn't safe. You have absolutely NO idea how I drive my car, no idea how competent I am at doing so, and no indication of either bar a single sentence on an internet forum.

How dare you judge me and accuse me of unsafe driving based on so little knowledge :)

I canonly hope that when you do stack it you dont kill yourself or anyone else.

Have you any idea how utterly daft you sound? You make it sound like I drive everywhere at 160mph with little regard for anyones personal safety. Don't make me laugh. I am a careful and safe driver, but one who is not adverse to having a little fun when conditions dictate.

Obviously with a 1.6 Golf you won't know about fun, but don't take that out on me :p

Crazy drivers make me sick, always zooming past narrowing missing my wing mirrors *points at the scratch on his offside mirror from some punk*

I drive in a way to get the best fuel economy and because of that usually do anywhere between 100 and 150 miles on a £10 fillup (1.5 cvic hatch), being a del driver for a few nights a week as a 2nd job gets you into this routine though :p

No rushing and always polite for other motorists, the odd speeding here and there but that's to be expected on open roads though, hehe.
