Glastonbury 2023

Blondie/Atomic bit down on vocal power, had to check at 77 she's got 6 years on chrissie Hind (powerful) , 1 on elton;
hopefully elton has someone from older generation - roger daltry to help on Pinball ?

Tis on iplayer, if that's any use.

yes ok - the ones on bbc Sounds (audio only) if available are noticeably better/higher bandwidth recordings 320 vs 128kbs on iplayer videos;
I still have some great Sound ones cure/killers I regularly play in the car.

I did a bit of reading up on her, seems she is always late to shows, festival or not. Clearly a bit of an attitude problem.

Just finished watching The Hu, they were pretty good, wish there was more metal at Glastonbury. Iron Maiden headline set when?

Maiden will never headline Glasto… just too ‘niche’ and rock-based.

I think they (and their fans) would have a much better time at the usual rock festivals.

Watching the Lewis Capaldi set at the moment and it’s pretty awkward to watch. He’s sort of doing this funny chat / comedy thing for quite a bit between songs, which would have me really confused if I was there. It’s musically quite ordinary nor is it a ‘performance’ act either.

With all that said, I think he is struggling with Tourettes from what I’ve heard and that’s pretty amazing that he can pull off the singing with his ticks between the lyrics - good on him.

I enjoyed Blondie :)

Really enjoyed the Blondie set. Debbie Harry's voice has lost that sweet top end these days, understandably, but she's still badass and Clem Burke is still absolutely stunning on drums.

He cancelled a few weeks worth of shows I believe in the build up to Glastonbury, to focus on his mental/physical health. The Netflix documentary was quite an insight into the demands he faced and his struggles with it. His voice failing away in the 2nd half of his set you could see the effect it was having on him, with his ticks getting more apparent. I really felt for the guy, you could tell he was emotional as the crowd carried him through his final song.

If you can find the Rick Astley n Blossoms set on sounds, I will be forever in your debt.

Need that in decent quality.

Yes, brave lad. An awful lot of love from that crowd i think?

Editors were good, did a cover of Killer by Seal. Trying to decide who to watch later, what nutjob made QOTSA, Phoenix AND Alt-J clash? I'd be furious if I'd paid to go considering how many slots there are with nobody I'm interested in.

Alt-J are awful live, not missing anything there. QOTSA and Phoenix aren't exactly genre mates!

Well they're all guitar driven rock of various heaviness, there is definitely overlap in interest there which Glasto usually tries to avoid clashing from what I can tell. Normally headliners are of pretty different genres. I would guess there is far more overlap with those three than there was with say Fever Ray, Kelis and Arctic Monkeys

Will tune in for the start of Elton… but I did find his performance on one of the streaming platforms pretty dull if I’m honest.

Maybe Elton is one of those stars where more people are familiar with him than his music (aside from the obvious hits)?

That's the trouble with really over-produced music, it falls totally flat live.
They sorted it out after a few tracks, much better later. Not the greatest live, some acts elevate themselves on stage, some don't quite land.

Alt-J I saw at a festival in HK years ago, they were dreadful, out of tune most of the time, dude can't sing live at all.

Watching Loyle Carner atm, he smashed it, great performance, great sound, great presence.

Well they also messed up GnR last night so hardly a surprise. It's amazing that some bands just can't play live even after years in the business though.
