Glastonbury Thread...

I just dont understand that.. Not saying you're wrong for it, but a good 90% of the enjoyment of a festival for me personally is mincing around meeting people, doing strange things I wouldnt normally, and having a laugh. The music is a very, very clear second.

Obviously that goes out the window for festivals like Reading/Leeds, Download, V, Rock AM etc. As they dont actually have the 'festival' side of things, just a star studded bill and a lot of angsty children.

That's why I go to those other festivals :p (Apart from V, which strikes me as Glastobury lite in terms of the sort of bands that play there.)

I'd like to go to Glastonbury once in my lifetime, and next year looks to be that year. But I'm not interested at all in all the other stuff, which is why I probably look at the line up each year and feel terribly underwhelmed.

I think if you actually went to one of the proper festivals you might think very differently about that. The others just dont compare.

I went to Reading 6 or so years in a row before going to Glastonbury.. I never looked back. Now I go to as many of the proper ones as I can. If you're after Glastonbry Lite, V is nowhere near - Try Bestival. Exactly the same sort of vibe, but a lot, lot smaller. In many ways I actually prefer Bestival.

Glastonbury is the mother of all festival, its more than just than the Line Up, the people, atmosphere, stone circle, the camp fires, lost vagueness and everything about it is so awesome. It is like you step into a different country where people live in harmony for 5 days!

Glastonbury is nothing but a line-up of commercial crap and absolute nobodies interspersed with one or two legends. The Glastonbury of today is nothing like it used to be back in the day. Total waste of money!

Although I have to say I'm loving the people in their early 20s who're saying that "you don't know what Glastonbury is about, man"!

i hate the oldies that got to experience the old glasto and then put down the youngies who like the new glasto!
im 22 and never could experience old glasto, and now all the oldies tell me im ****
glastonbury's about as un**** as you can get in england nowadays.
stop puttin the kids down gramps!

So who else is getting excited, not long now. Just starting to pack and tidy the house. Need to go beer shopping in a bit. Leaving at 6:30 tomorrow so should be down there for 7:30ish just before the gates open.

Oh and Just in case anyone needs a list

TENT - at least one man bigger than you need, you need to keep your beer and clothes somewhere.
Army tent/gazebo - If one person in the group can bring this, it will give you somewhere dry to drink and socialize when not in the arena.
Sleeping Bag - Good idea unless you wanna get cold.
Mat/air bed - makes it more comfortable
Pillow - I just put a fluffy jumper over a clothes packed rucksack.
Food -Can be bought in the campsite although quite expensive. can be bought cheap from town centre.
Cutlery- Turns out to be useful
Camping stove - If your planning to make any food, you'll need a camp stove or disposable bbq.
Pot - if your using a camp stove, then you'll need a pot to use on it.
Comdoms - Be safe or may come home with a funny itch!
DRUGS -Enough said OH wait as in Asprin, pro plus, plasters)
Matches/Lighter - Need to burn things. It's a must....
Hammer - Those bloody tent peggs never go in.(don't think that'll be a problem this year.
Small Knife - Like fire it's a mans essential. Useful!!!
Torches - Un-less you've been bulking up on those carrots.
b - Power those torches and other equipment
Cd player - again if one person in the group can bring a cd player, then all is good.
Bog Paper - Very Important,, Will be a messy weekend without as all of the paper in the loos gets nicked or runs out
Boots/Wellington boots - The campsites are still very wet, this is an essential this year.
Cash - 50+ ( I budget 50 a day)
Camera - Best taking a disposable one or a cheap digital which you don't mind losing.
Sun tan lotion - It can be quite hot. Hopefully we will need it, but doubt fall.
Jacket/Coat/Poncho - I take a poncho, small easy to carry/put on. Great festival image.
Sunglasses -Handy.
Deodrant -You will Smell BAD after 1 day of moshing etc..
toiletrys - Tooth paste, wet wipes (can have a wipe down everyday, keep that smell at bay) etc
Beer/spirits - What's a festival when your sober. Take plenty, leave in car. Then you can go and collect rather than walking into town, which have sold out.
Friends - Don't forget to bring them, especially if your driving
Extra clothes - Your clothes will get wrecked and lost bring some more
Warm Clothes - It can and has got very cold at night, remember you'll still be up at 3-4am and much much later. Brings Loads of warm clothes, layers is the way forward. Layer up and it traps the heat in. Jumpers, coats. sake sure you can fit one pair of trousers over the other to keep legs warm. Gloves!!
Soft drinks/collapsible water container - You will get very very dehydrated, beer + moshing = lose.. So make sure you either bring loads of soft drinks, or a collapsible water container, you can fill up from a water point.
Bin liners/carrier bags - wrap bog roll, clothes etc in them. Stops it getting wet, aslo can be used as bins.
Chair - I think it's essential, You've been stood up all day. You need to chill out and relax. more comfortable and can be kept dry. Unlike the floor.

Hiking rucksack - often see people wondering with binliners. within 20 minutes they are split and all your stuff goes everywhere. A good 100litre bag is essential
Sack truck - These are absolutley brilliant, make sure it's a heavy duty version with big air filled knobbly tyres. Can be loaded up with beer and other lareg heavy items. I can't tell you how much of a God send these are. About £25 of the bay. (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/272KG-600LB-HE...3:1|294:50)

TICKETS - you wont be doing anything without them.

woop woop. camping in pennards, this year is gonna be a good one. im looking forward to travelling light. skint this year so gonna turn up with bare essentials, tenner a day for a warm breakfast and tea and a big smile

Couldn't they have hosted some good bands this year, instead of countless *insert generic pap bands here*?

line up looks pretty good to me, hardly generic

neil young, bruce springsteen, N.E.R.D, regina spektor, spinal tap, nick cave, yeah yeah yeahs, jarvis cocker, bon iver, tindersticks, penguin cafe orchestra, wave machines, emmy the great, metric, peter bjorn and john, animal collective, peaches, 2manydjs, erol alkan, m ward, the horrors, michachu and the shapes, theoretical girl, bat for lashes, echo and the bunnymen.

Even if you don't like the music, there's plenty of other stuff to do, will definitely go next year for the big birthday bash though.
