You don't needs maths for ICT, you definitely need it for computing. Industry is the same.

I only find maths to be relevant when it comes to algorithms and crypto, for general 'IT' (support, server work and such) I can't think of where it would come in handy.

Not at all, there's usually additional funding made available for mature students so universities are quite happy to take them.
Agree with IT being all about maths.

Saying English and Maths isn't needed for IT doesn't make it right - they're easy subjects at GCSE and saying they're not needed is no excuse to not pass them. A son/daughter at college doesn't need parents to be writing in letters... its not primary school. No offence.

You don't attempt A level Maths if you got an E at GSCE. Ok so you didn't revise/try...still...don't attempt it unless you are breezing an A. Been there done that having got a C (should have been a B) and had to quit it was too hard. You just have to accept sometimes you can't "get" maths quick enough.
As for going back to do them all again. I'd also advise not to...at all. Plenty of people work up from nothing with no grades. Al about attitude and adapting/learning something. Nothing I did at school helped me with my career and I even did A levels and started a degree which I quit to go work in IT. I never studied anything to do with IT and I gradually just worked my way up. I am on better pay than a lot of people I knew who went to uni. Majority of them are in so so jobs too, it just took them even longer to get there. Some are complete bums with no jobs still. Some habe poor jobs/careers.
Just saying that imo at 20 years old, for me, you would be better off not wasting a year or two even three more with more education. Just get out into work.

As for "maths being the basis of IT". Perhaps a more true statement would be that it is the basis of computing, yes. But the basis of IT...err....no. IT the term itself is so vast and covers such a massive array of different jobs and lines of work, that you cannot possibly state that maths is important in even 10% of those roles. Yes for programming and the likes, but in majority....just no.
Nah, you can do it. I did math at gcse and got c. Then did a-level albeit later than usual and got 'A' as a private candidate. You just have to be interested in math. Math becomes interesting at a-level because of calculus and what not. Much easier if you're interested. Go on AQA, and Edexcel, self study until you pass the past exams with ease.
If your going into I.T might as well do software
Anyone and there nan can get certs and configure things with enough training, not everyone can program well.

and OP said that he got bad marks becaus ehe didn't apply himself or make an effort as opposed to he has issues with learning or understanding the material. If he got bad marks through laziness and now wants to do a HE course i am sure he will be fine.
