Going Vegetarian.

Or eat eggs, or drink milk, or wear wool.

Sure none involve the killing of animals, but all could be considered "cruel"

Leather does involve killing them. We don't have cows walking around with no hide. ;)

But yeah, you're right. If you don't eat meat due to how the animal is supposedly kept before it's killed. Then he mustn't support any farming practices, because it's all the same.

All you 'so called' veggies out there do one thing for me. Look around your bedroom or house and look at the clothes you are wearing. Virtually everything you can see has involved the death of living creatures at some point and it just makes me laugh when a veggie talks about the killing of other life to eat meat. Just because you don't know how that new shirt got on your back doesn't mean you can't hide your head in the sand, if you do it for one aspect of your life then do it for all otherwise you are hypocrites.

Again, why with the "'so called' veggies" line? There is no misnomer here, if someones diet does not contain meat (or meat products) then they are vegetarian. Simple as.

I don't want to eat meat because I don't like it but I'm also happy that animals are not being killed to feed me either. Some of the products I use such as shoes have no doubt involved the death of animals but by not eating meat I am not increasing the number of animals being killed by the amount of (animals to feed me + animals for my clothing) so therefore the net number of animals that are killed for my consumption is less than it would otherwise be.

Given I've already stated I have no problem with others eating meat (particularly if it is killed humanely) because it is a choice that people make. I respect their right to eat meat, I'd like the same in return. :)

I put to the you the welfare and well-being of the animal when it's alive. You ever pondered the conditions of livestock kept caged indoors for the small sum of its miserable existance, only to serve you as a meal on your plate?

Sorry - but the majority of meat eaters in this thread have all expressed concern over animal welfare.

I really think you need to separate the two things. Eating meat doesn't mean that you do not care about animal welfare.

Yup, and you do have respect, because like "some people" you don't consider yourself a better person for not eating the meat.

Wearing Wool is hardly "cruel", unless they tear the wool from the sheep in the middle of winter.

I have just watched "Come Outside" with my 2 year old. Nurse Gladys Emanuel has just informed us that sheep and not harmed in any way and its nice for them to have their thick wooly coats removed during summer. She also explained how they get balls of wool in different colours. But that's a different story.

Right, Fireman Sam is on now... got to go again .

I was kind of the refering to the fact that to get the wool you have to man handle the sheep which they probably don't like.

<insert excellent post here>

Well said. This vegetarian would like to completely agree with all this too.
I don't want to be branded as a preaching veggie.
One type of vegetarian isn't the "norm" you know. ahahaha.

But then again, could completely enjoy it...

I don't think so. They don't despise it, because it doesn't cause them any pain, but they won't be recommending it to their friends.

Don't worry some day far into the future human compassion and tolerance will come to light, and meat eaters will be shunned as primitive types.
Put the keyboard down, and slowly walk away from your computer.

Well having watched that, I wouldn't say it's cruel either. Especially if it helps to keep them cool in the summer months.

You certainly won't hear them bleating on about it.

The only reason I can accept why people choose not to eat meat is because they don't like it (like my daughter and Bro In law) or if a doctor has advised you not to.
Everyone has to draw the line somewhere. It's your own personal choice where you draw yours. Some choose to draw the line at eating warm-blooded mammals that share so much in common with ourselves. There were some people, still are, that eat other humans. There are some people who won't eat eggs unless they're free range yet they eat meat. Are they all wrong? Can you not understand any of them? IS everything black and white for you or are you actually like the rest of us and you do in fact draw the line somewhere?

I'm on about the bleating big ninny girls that go on about the killing of animals for meat eaters.

If you are a veggie that does it because you don't like meat or you think its better for you then go ahead.
If you are the type that bleats about the poor cows, chickens, pigs etc then I have no respect for your veggie ways.

I draw lines all over the place in my life but I'm not the one who's being a hypocrite.
I love meat and I don't give a rats arse where it comes from.
Back in Nigeria I went to the abbatoir and I killed the animals that went on our table - yum yum.

And mammals that share so much in common with us - you're watching too many Disney films.

Mmm bought and just eat 2 lamb burgers :D

Just out of interest - would you draw the line at it coming from a rats arse ?
