Goldeneye!

That looks amazing, exactly like the original with some of the jaggies smoothed out. Really looking forward to this. Not sure how the 4-way split screen will work in handheld mode.

Is this going to be purchasable as a stand-alone game or will it just be through the only N64 back catalogue on Nintendo Online?

Fair enough, I've not paid much attention to that, I just judge it based on merits of what I see, and this Goldeneye on Xbox thing has been getting pushed a lot in terms of advertising / articles / alerts etc, a lot more so than Rare Replay or whatever.
So I'm approaching it from an open mind rather than in the context of it being part of some wider re-release initiative.

For the Switch it's only part of the N64 Expansion section of Switch Online.

For the XBox it'll be on GamePass and given free to owners of Rare Replay.

That and it runs at considerably more than 1fps whenever there is an explosion :D

The excitement is in large part due to the expectation it would never make it to these services (particularly the Switch), due to the history involving Rare being bought by Microsoft and I think some rights being tied to the film complicated things further - that's why there's been such a fuss.

Obviously the other part of the fuss is that besides obvious stuff like Mario and Zelda, arguably even above those, this was THE N64 game - it will be a huge nostalgia hit.

I have Rare Replay on disc. AFAIK it is only those that have the digital version. I will more than likely be playing it on switch anyway even though I have gamepass.

Hmmm, just played Dam on both XSX and Switch and there's a slight difference...

Unfortunately it doesn't have the polish on XSX that Perfect Dark had, capped at 30fps and feels a bit sluggish.

Switch seems to feel better and is 'the' experience but the controls do not work with a pro controller!

got my switch n64 pad ready for this weekend :D

What really made the experience was the auto aim… there was something very deliberate about it, the game didn’t expect you to be precise.

I wonder how that will translate with this remaster.

I don't mean literally but the default has left trigger as shoot, inverted axis, move and look with left stick, strafe with right...

Very, very jarring!

Ah I see - that seems more like the fact going back to a control system designed for a single stick is jarring after 20 years of games using two sticks which is to be expected really - i'm sure people will come up with some decent controller mappings that make it more similar to a modern shooter.

Yeah, oddly Xbox has been altered so just works as such. That being said, the N64 version is just US emulated version, Xbox has definitely been adapted.

I always used to play goldeneye with solitaire control style so the stick was purely for look and c buttons to move forward and strafe (Basically C buttons imitated the other stick). Essentially I ended up being southpaw for a good decade till I retaught myself to be right handed again. If you choose solitaire again it will make the right stick strafe and forward and left stick look which is the modern way but left handed :P. Not sure if there is anyway to switch the sticks on switch or not. I guess I am going to have to see if I can reteach myself to be southpaw again!!

This feels so good to play on the Xbox, perfect.

Music, sound effects, everything is so nostalgic.
