Goldeneye!

Getting home from school then running straight up to my bedroom with 3 school pals like a pack of wild elephants to play 4 player split screen a Sony Trinitron. Good times. Glory days.

It's a 25 year old game, not sure what you'd be expecting to see in a trailer to judge it not awful?
I've seen other 25 year old games like Quake have a remake and it didn't look awful to me, maybe my expectations are based on typically older games getting a full remake / remaster whereas this looks more like some basic upscaling / widescreen without really much else changing(?), I understand there is no online multiplayer on Xbox too which seems like a bit odd in the modern age. Higher framerate too apparently but should be taken for granted, no excuse for this running under 120fps. Achievements I don't care about.

...that's where your expectations aren't aligned then - these aren't remakes, they're just re-releases with some updated resolutions/widescreen and in the case of the Switch, multiplayer working online.

Edit - and I think the reason for the difference in online multiplayer is because they are literally re-releases, the Switch Online N64 emulator is what does the local to online multiplayer conversion work, not the games themselves.

Sure, as I said above my expectation is just based on what I normally see, I can think of hardly any 25 old games that just get a bog standard re-release, it's nearly always a significant remaster/remake. Quake got a remaster, old C&C games got a remaster, Diablo2 got a remaster etc.
I appreciate this is maybe a bit different in the sense that it was a Nintendo-only game rather than having a history on PC, but there's been plenty of games in the past that have had new networking implemented as part of a remaster.

'Bog standard re-release' is pretty much the entire scope of the Switch Online N64 Expansion package and the Rare Replay package on XBox.

I don't know about the Rare Replay stuff but the Switch Online is essentially nothing more than an official N64 emulator - it's never pretended to be providing remakes or anything of the sort.
