Hi all,
I have just noticed that one of my goldfish has begun to float rapidly to the top of the tank as soon as he stops swimming. He has lost most of his gold markings, being almost completely silver now.

Can anyone help?

RIP. lol

They float is they are sucking up bubbles when trying to eat the flakes sometimes which is relatively hamless iirc, but the other stuff like scales falling off and flopping around= bad news

That's the swim bladder gone. It'll probably die soon but I've had a few make a miraculous recovery. Check the water quality as that might be why it's losing scales. I think it's high phosphates or sommat that causes it and you can buy drops to neutralise the water.

It's true, i'm bad.
If he is going to die, my regrets. If it's just gas he should cut his food into smaller pieces.

Cut the jokes guys this is someones loved pet not a google video.

Sorry to hear about it, have to tried phoning a vet about it, you never know they may be able to help?

Sounds bad, hope it does not come to the worst.

I'm being quite serious, freezing it is a humane way of letting it pass away.

I was the first to suggest we let next door's cat round to try it's hand (or paw).

So... spec me a fish :p

You'll need to goto SC for such a request. Personally I find tins of tuna remarkable companions...

It's the swim bladder, we've had 4 go recently....it's due to the warm weather, there's nothing that you can do for him unfortunately

We've just got 2 more and a thermometer to measure water temp, at the moment it's just about tropical temps so we're resorting to sticking ice cubes in a bag to cool the water down.

Yeah we had one in our pond in the back garden go like the above, we checked the water and the parents did something to it and a few days later the fish had a miraculous recovery. Although they tend to die, sometimes you get lucky and they live.

They wont be able to help a fish no, but they may be able to offer advice on something to do moreso than people on a computing forum.
