Golf R

It would be nicer to have Sirocco in 4wd but imagine how much that would be. The expense is mainly down to the exchange rate, I bet the Audi S4 will cost even more when a new version comes out.

With more cheap cars these days from places like Korea it does increase the relative quality of VWs and cars are constantly getting bigger. I can see why S3s and Golf Rs are becoming popular.

It's just exchange rates mainly that make it seem crazy. But then prices haven't changed for other manufacturers so much, I could still buy a 330i for a similar price which I think most would prefer unless you really really must have a hatchback.

A 335i M Sport Coupe with the options you'd want (Pro Satnav, USB interface, etc) comes to £40425 IIRC, which is about what the Golf ends up at once you've specified it properly.

For this you get 306bhp, a Coupe bodystyle and a nice 6 cylinder engine with two turbos.

And right wheel drive..

It is the options that are not standard which make the Golf R20 expensive if they included the leather Recaros, magnetic dampers,19" alloys and the sat nav system for your 29k it wouldn't be too bad not much more than a RS Focus with a lux pack 2 and more kit compared to a S3. Instead it will cost you £6k for these extras. Even the die hard VW forums are saying it is too expensive I can't see VW selling many.
