So the shanks are still here :(

Signed up with a local pro for regular lessons and coaching - a bad combination of flipping hands and leaning back at impact, exposing the heel of the club. Slowly working on it - working on body position through transition and swing plane - a mixture of range and on-course work. If I'm going to suffer this much, I may as well bring about some improvement with it! All being well I'll be back playing properly soon, and better than ever. Hopefully..

Just remember with lessons, it might get worse before it gets better., don;t get too disheartened if it doesn't go well after lessons. It's a learning process and golf is one of the hardest sports. Good luck!

Yep - that's the plan. From chatting with the pro, I've always had very good hand-eye coordination, so I've been able to make it work for years, even with a less than ideal swing. So it's definitely a process; I'm sort of planning on it getting worse before it gets better - but with the intention that it will be SO much better by the time I start playing well again. It's a process!

Strange wet stuff coming from the sky this morning.... :D

Course desperately needs it - could play long today. 3rd Round Club champ qualifying. I "should" be already qualified for handicap side with a net 70/72 so anything better than either of them is just a bonus

best 2 of 3 rounds count

Was out last night for a round with a couple of guys from work. Was a fun round, not a great score after 99 last weekend and scored 110. My putting was my weakness this time, my friend said it was just bad luck I had so many lip outs and then ended up 3 putting a lot . I also lost 2 balls to the stream. That’s golf I guess.

Was booked to play this afternoon but cancelled due to the rain which was forecast for today. Gutted because although a few drops have fallen it has otherwise been dry.

Today was day 1 of the club championships, ours is just a 2-day medal tournament with a cut, top 50% from today go through to tomorrow.

Didn't play my best but kept it in play for the most part and ended up with a 91 gross for 76 (+6) net, thought that'd be good as I made the cut last year with a +9 net but it was actually closer than I thought. Leader is on -3! +8 made the cut so it was comfortable enough really.

I had 7 pars and 6 bogeys, so those were solid, no bogeys but had like 3 good chance that just didn't quite drop. Few other holes where just got scruffy and racked up doubles/triples but the worst was a 9 on the par 4 13th (or 4th on the back 9).

Pulled my tee shot, duffed my second and had to take my medicine but then had 102 to the flag, slightly down wind, with a nasty bunker in front of the green, took my 54-degree which was super aggressive but it landed on the top of the bunked and rolled back in, like 10cm further and it's perfect but yeah. In a medal I should've just taken my gap wedge though and been safe. Took me 3 to get out of the bunker so yeah....

Also on the 14th I pulled my tee shot but should've been fine except it ran up against the base of a tree and to make it worse I couldn't even turn a wedge upside down and hit it lefty cause there was a plant in the way. Had to take unplayable, only penalty shot of the day, poor shot but also bad luck.

So made the cut, teeing off in the second group tomorrow, can be nice and relaxed cause I doubt I've got any real chance so let's see if I can get a birdie or 3 :p

Nice work - well done

3rd Round club champs qualifying today - I should be in already with net 72 and net 70 for knockouts (best 2 of 3 count)

Driver was amazing off the tee today - really good, irons very poor - Tough wind and rain today....

Birdied 15th and 18th to shoot 80 for net 72. (that's 27 and 28th of the season in the race to 50)

Got my new SM10 50 degree wedge - only needed it today twice and the second time was into the breeze on 18th, 3rd shot from 95 yards.... Stuffed it to about 2ft including a nice bit of spin on the 2nd bounce to stop it dead. Looks so much better behind the ball than the "chunky" GW from my set.

First of the champ qualifiers and absolutely brutal golfing weather here today wind was hitting 40mph gusts and the majority of holes were cross-wind.

Finished +1 nett 72 which I was delighted with, just missed 2 fairways.

The qualifiers are best of three so no chance a 72 will progress to the knockouts but for today it's a really decent round.

The funny thing is I was playing on Wed and literally had my worst round for over a year and we couldn't have asked for better conditions

My golf this weekend kyboshed by puting my back out while getting ready on Saturday morning! Still went in as it was my pairs summer knockout so had three other players to consider. It was kind of manageable once I had warmed up and I surprised myself by hitting a lovely 6i off the tee on the 1st but that was one of few highlights. Just couldn't swing at full speed, especially with driver, and was having to take several practice swings before each shot to loosen up. We took the match to the last, in part thanks to some large slices of luck that I had, but lost 1DN.

Suffice to say I paid the price afterwards :(. Had to withdraw from today's comp. Thankfully it's been easing off since this morning and there's a full day of sports on TV to keep me occupied. On which note back to the DP World Tour which has just gone to a playoff.

Looking back at yesterdays round this morning I realised I managed to not have a single 3-putt (or worse!), 31 putts total with 5x 1 putts, really happy with that.

Anyway, to todays round. Being 9 shots back there was almost no chance, I worked out before hand that I'd need to match my best ever round to make up those 9 shots, so kinda set myself a target of keeping the total over the two days to below +10 so that'd require a +3 net or better today.

We also had the crazy wind @iGiDK experienced :p forecast was for 40-45mph gusts and can well believe it.

Made even worse when I missed my first putt on the first hole (for par) and rather than mark and wait I went to tap it in with an awkward stance only to miss... Double to start, w00t.

In the front 9 I scored 45 gross (one worse than yesterday) with 5x 3-putts, including a second 'I'll just tap this in' moment. Not great and meant I'd need a 43 gross on the back 9 to hit my target.

So I started the back 9 with an 11 followed by 3 bogies, so +9 through 4, needed -1 over the last 5 holes to hit my target :p

Almost made it though, level pay over the last 5 holes with 2x birdies and a double on the last.

Overall +10 over two days, I'm not too upset about that. Could easily have been better, multiple bad holes really but 2 that stand out because they're the ones that will be capped when the scores go in EG, a 9 on a par 4 yesterday with the bunker fun and that 11 today. Overall though I kept my head in it, only lost 1 ball across both days (today on the 11...) and generally just played my game how I wanted to :)

Finally put together a half-decent round. Golf coach has been working on my swing plane and ball contact. Used a simple trick - place a tee just outside the ball, then aim to swing inside it - cuts down on shanks. So I've been doing simply that, along with adding in a couple of swing plane modifications. Great contact every time :o

Some work to do on alignment (steeper swing plane leads to misses left now..), but overall massively improved. Starting to transition out of the "tee trick" and picking a spot to swing through instead, from half pitch shots to full swings. Much happier :)

Played Cumberwell Park yesterday and had both a terrible round in golfing terms but also one of the most enjoyable rounds for a while in terms of banter/laughs :p

Golf wise I was a bit silly, after playing the club championships over the weekend I knew I'd be pretty knackered both physically but also mentally, the club champs were medal which I find extra 'stressful' as mistakes can be so costly, I like it but it does take it's toll. So then I of course decided to do a general play card on EG, should've just had a fun round...

Golf wise the swing just wasn't quite there and I think after medal I was a bit more aggressive off the tee leading to a bunch of provisionals and lost balls so the score was pretty bad (98, +27 with a course handicap of +20) but I did manage a birdie on the 17th which is one of my favourite holes there so good times.

Had our 2nd round of foursomes today(had a bye in the first round). Partner started slow, woke up.. Then both peaked, then I fell off. Won 2&0. From 3 up to 1 up to winning on 18 was a nerve wracking experience! Never played that format before, neither had my teammate. Phew, take a win! Ironically beat one of the opponents in the 1v1 knockout as well.

Haven’t popped my head in here for a while, hope everyone is playing well? :)

Started a new job in April, IT Engineer at the nicest club (with two courses) in the area, with golf membership included :D

Had some good rounds and bad rounds but need to get some more lessons booked in to get my goal of breaking 100 this summer.

End of the year last year I was shooting 120-110 and now I’m usually under 110, and scored 100 at an easy course a few weeks ago!

However at the range yesterday, my driver shaft broke :(

Nice controlled swing, contact felt odd and took a minute to see the damage, but she’s done well for a 11 year old club!

Now the search is on for a new driver! :D

Interesting weekend of golf.

Yesterday was a 5th Sat event in the roll up. 100% of your course handicap from the white tees. You then picked 6/6/6 (white/yellow/red) to play from. Double points off the whites, ladies stroke index and par off the reds. As you can imagine it lead to some big scores. Was quite pleased with my 53pts (a notional 88 gross) but the winner came in with 65pts (playing off 7), having shot one over gross with 3x eight pointers on the card!

Today was my singles knockout. I was in receipt of three shots. Was three up through three thanks to some gifts from my opponent and good putting from myself. Took advantage of the two shots I received on the front nine to win two more holes and hit the turn one up.

We then halved four of the next five holes (one luckily for me after a poor tee shot on my shot hole), I lost the one in the middle after thinning my third on twelve into the lake, to be all square heading to the fifteenth. Wind was really up at this point and I played a solid punch shot to find the green at the short par 3 after my opponent had found the bunker. Back to one up. Opponent won the next with a lovely birdie and seventeen after the wind carried what looked like a solid tee shot from myself OB. Got lucky when my opponent dragged their tee shot on eighteen straight into the trees lining the teeing area. Hit a solid drive myself which allowed me to play conservatively for a bogey which was good enough to win the hole.

Back down the first for extra time! Having hit a great drive first time around but then topped my second into the ditch at the front of the green I joked that hopefully I didn't hit a good one so I was forced to lay up. I got my wish :p Opponent hit a near carbon copy of their first only slightly further right so stayed in the fairway and was well in range. Thought they'd hit a good shot but the wind had other ideas and carried it long. Ball ended up in a tough spot. They hacked out back to the front edge of the green, I was nicely on around 12ft below the pin. Both of us had played three. Opponent left their first putt well short leaving the door open, getting down in two would almost certainly win it. Of course my first putt was also woeful and left me only just closer than my opponent, around 6ft. Opponent didn't hole out leaving me a putt for the win, duely rolled it in dead centre :D

As it stands looks like I'll be giving away six shots in the next round so can't afford any of the sloppy play I had today.

Good weekend of golf, finally!

88 on Friday, followed by an 85 on Sunday, enough to win the June Sunday medal - my handicap increase has handily given me a few more shots :p

Fun to play with the wind as well, the ball was carrying miles when you were with wind - longest drive was 353, albeit on a downhill par 4 with wind behind :D
