gutted for you - that's tough - I'd certainly try and find a good physio as well to help. Painkillers might help short term but longer term some rehab etc....

I was at gym this morning for 1st time in 10 days after my back issues..... felt ok thankfully - hoping to get 9 holes on friday before saturday 18.
Don't worry, got a good physio who I see when needed - have known him for 13yrs since it first happened and got an appointment booked due to the muscular aches that have been niggling recently

Short version - L5/S1 bulging disc that I have managed for the 13yrs with a combination of stretching and exercises, then physio when needed

I know the signs but this time it has hit me pretty quick with very little warning, which has been very annoying as I have had about 2yrs completely pain free

Played Pennard yesterday, long old day as it's ~112 miles away and I decided not to stay over anywhere, thought about it but as it was a 13:40 tee time didn't seem to make sense staying over the night before and working today so would've been a very early morning to drive back in time, so yeah. Ended up running out of daylight too as it was a long round, just over 5 hours and there were 2 groups behind ours I think, they probably should've started half hour earlier or so tbh. After the post-round meal you get I left there at 19:30 ish and got home just before 22:00, tired now :p

Anyway, great day, weather was lovely with just a bit of wind making it a bit tricky early on but glorious sunshine all the way through until it set as we were on the last couple of holes :p And the course, dunno if anyone else has played Pennard but those views are stunning, sod the golf :p Honestly think that's the best views I've seen on a golf course to date, just absolutely stunning pretty much the whole way around,.

Course was tricky though, lots of blind shots and undulations and especially having never played there before (none of us had) it was a bit of a hit and hope quite often, but it worked out for the most part. I scored +21 gross, playing off 21 (my index is 21 as well fwiw) so 36 points.

Generally happy with the game, my driver swing wasn't quite there early on but I was able to putt pretty solidly, nothing special but 2-putts generally on new to me greens that were quite rapid I'll take any day, and my partial wedge game inside 100 yards was reasonably on point too so getting around with bogeys etc. I did mess up the 10th though for a blob, my first actually properly decent drive too but just messed up from there unfortunately. Couple of other 1 pointers but then the Driver swing came back towards the end of for a nice finish.

That 36 points was good enough for 5th, winner was on 38 and then there were 2 on 37 and at least 2 on 36. My back 9 was poor with that blob at the start so probably lost on countback to at least one other 36. So didn't win anything but solid round nonetheless.

Really nice group too, it's been nice thinking about it that going solo to these events you're put in a 4-ball with 3 randoms and I've not had a bad one, this was a particularly good one though, lots of banter and fun times.

But yeah, Pennard, very impressed and will 100% go back to.

Oh, and given all those blind shots and no knowledge of the course... 0 balls lost. \o/

Really cool insight into PGA tour - WAY better than Full Swing etc for geeks like me....

New Commissioner bring some of his NFL background to golf..

Watched that this morning, I really enjoyed, PGA finally starting to realise fans loves the golfers personalities just as much as their game.

Sun splitting the sky.... Shirt sleeves..... happy days.

Quick 18 just now- still on winter tees so only just over 3hr 15 as a 4 ball....

nice to get out and swing a club properly outside. Still some "pulls" in there but trying to get focus on pre-shot routine being the same every time.... Work to do.

Evening all

long time away from here due to injuring my knee back in November. Basically had an MRI which shows I've torn the muscle at the back of my left knee which has then bled into my knee and I've also partially torn my left ACL.
All this by walking into a dishwasher door (when open) and hyperextending my knee

Thankfully talking to my physio, I have no instability so no operation needed and also the muscle surrounding my knee is strong and there is no. "play" in my knee which would cause any further instability.

I tried to play golf back in February (prior to my physio) but due to the information I was given via MRI results, I was hesitant to swing fully. Thus resulting in 21 points and a horrible round of golf. I never touched my clubs until yesterday.

Fast forward and yesterday I went and played the PGA at The Belfry. Beautiful weather and a beautiful course.
Came in with a very nice 83, Par 70.
Handicap has adjusted slightly to 9.5 but the big thing for me was to swing a club without thinking I'm going to fully tare my ACL and be out of golf for over 12 months.

Here's to knee strengthening and a lovely summer of golf

I have only played the Brabazon and PGA courses at The Belfry but I prefer the PGA if I am being honest

Finally managed to have a shower and been a bit more mobile today, relatively speaking, compared to the last few days which is a little win, so trying to stay positive

Been watching both the LIV event and Valspar as can't really do much else other than playing PGA 2K25 on the PS5 if I want to feel involved with golf - my portal has been worth the cost this week alone lol

Cracking weather today, unlike my golf. Still could have made 36pts but for two very short putts I missed. All my good stuff came on the last three holes of the front and back nines. Five pars and one bogey combined for half of the 34pts I came home with :p

Cracking day up here and had the shorts on too. Bizarre start, absolutely smoked my drive off the first right down the middle, ball must've insta-plugged and completely disappeared, couldn't believe it.

But yeah that's golf, nice tap in birdie at one of the par 3s and lipped out for another 3 birdie tries

Still on winter tees so shortened course...Nice to be out playing yesterday however. Weird weather - was warm, almost t shirt weather at times, then we got freezing fog roll in.... Bizarre..

Birdied 1st and 2nd... Silly bogies on 5/6/7/9.... All from middle of the fairway around 100-110 yards. Need work on this.

Steady enough back 9 until I threw in a triple bogie on par 3 17th... bunker off tee, short sided, tried to be too cute with it, left it in, then fired next out and over green.... :p

77 gross for 72 net... Top 16 qualify for knockout comp - sitting 12th at the moment.

Mate had an entertaining round

Front - 54 / Back - 39
Two 9's, an 8 and two 2's on his card....:D:D

I'm not a bad player. I play off 12 and sometimes I feel I could shoot 6o... Half the time I wonder if it's my choices, so today I tried a more decade system style game.

For instance I fade the ball much more than I draw it, so I decided to aim towards the left edge of the fairway.. Ended up sticking it straight in the trees on the left. 3 off the tee.

Tried to not worry about the shot before and concentrate on the next and had the worst front 9 in a while. 13pts...

Back 9 shots 4over 20pts

Honestly to be a pro, I need to go play 9 holes somewhere else before I tee off.

Playing partner has pulled out sick, so no golf this weekend either.

You not have some rollups to join?

Wasn't playing in this morning's comp, Spring Foursomes, so out for a solo round. Ball striking as erratic as yesterday but coming up the last was level with my handicap. Dr, 7w (a great one over the trees as yesterday off a tricky lie) and landed in almost the exact same spot, a little mound just right of the green from where I'd got up and down. Today, takes me four to get down so I end up shooting 90 - like yesterday! Consistent I guess :p

The only consultation is to play so badly and still scramble, for me, a respectable score (90 off the whites gives a +17.3 differential) means my handicap should start tumbling when I get my act together. Won't be in the next couple of weeks though as greens maintenance on Mon/Tue and going by the beach that is the putting green will be a while for them to start rolling nicely again. Always amazes me how much sand they dump onto the greens while still failing to brush it into all the holes.

Played 18 on Saturday and 9 on Sunday, after quite a bit of physio over the winter to build the strength up around my knee I was feeling quite good. Whilst I'm a bit rusty I am able to fully swing all my clubs again, even the woods and posted a reasonable score. Putting was good too which is unusual for me, maybe the break has done me good in that part.

Thought I'd join in all the talk of injuries :( Felt some discomfort since the round at Pennard last Wednesday and over the weekend it became clear I've gone and got a hernia/an existing one has got worse, probably gonna need surgery so looks like no golf for me for a while...

Not sure what a roll up is.

I’m not a member of any club, just play where there’s an available tee time at various courses

Went for fitting today, couldn't hit my irons for ****. Really frustrating as i played on Sunday and hit them well.

New drivers were not much different than my qi35 max i have.
Wedges i need a low bounce wedge around the green and a moderate bounce for full shots based of a host of shots hit with a clevland fitting wedge
Did some putting using the Sam lab putter thing, really interesting bit of kit.

So the outcome was I'm going to head back for a lesson followed by iron fitting again, the odd shot i did hit well with various irons has the Mizuno HL and Ping g440 as the better hitting ones. Prefered the Mizuno but did hit the ping better. So the extra fitting will be just to validate those odd shots and get a good comparison with my existing. Wedges will be selected based of what iron i set so we know the gapping.

I didn't leave empty handed and got a TM Spider Tour X putter, feels really nice and has a lovely headcover.

100% do not need - nope, no, not for me..... absolutely happy with GT

Nope - no no no......

:D :D

(look lovely mind you)...

Nope - stop it

Same here, GT3 is just fine, don't neeed a GTS3, I can wait for the GT3RS (can't take credit for that joke, reddit's finest :p)

In other news saw a consultant today (paid for it rather than wait on NHS!) and he reckons I can play golf even with the hernia, but also that it does need surgery, so gonna give 9 a go at my local, probably Friday afternoon, what's the worst that can happen...
