Made my first eagle today :D At which point I was six over through twelve, despite two horrible three putts on the front nine, and on a roll (-1 for the last six holes). Sadly the only way from there was downhill and I duly obliged :(. Two more terrible three putts contributed to coming back in 44 for 87 total and 32pts in the monthly stableford.

Another chance tomorrow, playing in a mixed pairs stableford. A first for me. Hopefully I can swing it as well and tidy up the putting.

Enjoyable comp today, helped by the fact I played well despite losing four balls! Format was mixed pairs better ball, except for the par 3's where both scores counted, stableford. Men off the whites, ladies off the reds.

Hit probably my best drive all summer off the 1st, helped by a bit of wind it left me 114y to a front pin. Unfortunately I put my second (pw) into the ditch that runs in front of the green, but then made a great up & down after dropping to make 5-2. Contrast with yesterday where I had 8i in which I hit to mid/back and then three putted! 2nd I hit a scruffy drive followed by a great second shot to leave myself just short, chipped in for birdie :) Regulation par at the 3rd and then a great up and down at the next after pulling my tee shot long and left to leave myself short sided. Gross level at this point for myself and with my partner making 3-3 we were on 13pts after four holes. Made a mess of the next after hitting a good drive, partner bailed us out with points. Both of us par'd the 6th for 5 more points. A solid close to the front nine had us on 25pts at the halfway stage.

Started solid on the back nine, including a great up & down for par at the 11th - my scrambling as you can see from the stats was top notch today. Hit a solid drive on the 12th and was thinking good chance for birdie but leaked my approach (5w) right and into the lake (my only blob on the round). Partner stepped in for a solid two points. Neither of us covered ourselves in glory on the 13th, a point a piece was all we could manage. Was in reasonable shape on the 14th but hoiked my approach left of the green so was only able to make 6-2. Three putted the next, admittedly from 55ft, but still stung while my partner made another 3-3. Then on the 17th choose an inopportune moment to hit driver OB and my partner did the same! Made par with my second ball to pick up a point. 18th hit a great drive and then 7i over the trees to leave myself 7ft for birdie which I duly sunk, 3-4. All in 23pts back for 48 total.

Not having played in this event before I thought we might be in with a chance of winning, our playing partners had made 45pts after a good comeback on the back nine. Got into the clubhouse to find out that one pair had scored 50pts, apparently not uncommon to have a winning score this high :p Well deserved though as the young lady in the pair, think she's 16/17 - who was playing with one of my regular playing partners who knows her family well, had shot gross level par  (playing off 6). We ended up 2nd with an M&S gift card as our reward.

My scorecard: Playing off 12. 18 Birdies showing the old stroke indicies. Swap those on 2nd & 3rd and 13th & 14th.

So after playing **** at the weekend I thought id get a quick 10 holes in after work. My trs slider turned up earlier today so 10 minutes with that then went out… 4 over par through 10. Confusing game isn’t it after what I’m guessing would have been 30 odd over at the weekend.

My thought was safe where I can including hitting my 5 wood as it can’t reach the trouble on one of the holes then swing thought was concentrate on body having minimal sway and keep my right arm connected to my chest. I found this helped and my kinda finishing pose if you want it call it that was a lot more arms extended to target.

I have a lesson on Friday which I’m a little nervous about now as we have a medal on Saturday for those with order of merit points (I have 12). I would love to win a comp this season as I know I can play quite a bit under my 17 handicap when I piece it together.

So a good bit of golf today and my eldest wants to play a pairs comp which will be his first adults comp (he’s 15 playing of 25) he normally plays of yellow tees so I may have to play of yellows instead of whites for a change in a comp

Played a medal comp yesterday, set of well but had a right wobble in the middle which tanked the round. Went 9,8,7 on par 4s then back to alright golf again.0 idea just seemed to loose the ability. Played this morning 9 holes, over my handicap but played alright so don't mind them.
Lesson on Friday was good, working on hip rotation, I seem ok rotating my right him back but the left hip isn't playing game and instead of rotating properly seems to be pushing my hips towards the ball. Got a drill to fix that which I was told can take some time but I can do it with no club in the house. Other thing that I seem to always struggle with is best described as chicken winging it so just need to spend more time on left arm only drills to help. If I can play alright with all these issues be good to see what it looks like if I can get them sorted.

I got down to 16/17 handicap around July which is where I peaked for the year it seems. I now have a complete swing crisis and shank half my shots.
I've realised that if I line the club face up so the ball is in the middle, when I come down, I seem to reach out wider and I strike the shaft. If I line it up so that the toe would barely skim the ball, I come down and middle it.

So why don't I stand further away all the time then? Well it only happens about 50% of the time. This along with tops and chunks and my games totally gone right now. I just have no real idea where any shots going to go.

Lessons next I guess. :(

No golf for a few weeks due to holiday/family wedding but just packing the bag for 5 days in Spain...

Can't wait for some warm weather golf....

Day 1 - Chapparal scramble old boys v young team
Day 2 - La Cala Europa
Day 3 - Los Naranjos Golf Club
Day 4 - Marbella Golf & Country Club
Day 5 - Torrequebrada

4 days of stableford with a doubles title also mixed in (play with your room mate against the other 3 rooms)

Can't wait....

Golf time is getting less with the dark nights. We’ve got practise nets but no lighting going to them and the club have advised due to h&s I can’t bring my own lamp down and practise.

Played today 10 and just a bit naff still, does get a little disheartening but looking at my swing at the beginning of the season compared to now it is certainly better but still just not striking the ball great and off the t is all over the place
Suspect my handicap will creep up as I’m playing around 25 despite being down at 17. Just need to get the hand of the mental side of accepting I’m going to be shot whilst making fundamental changes

Handicap up to 18 this morning l, played stableford comp getting 34 points and that was with a couple of pick ups. Putting was good, tee was accurate apart from 2 drives and irons was really well struck

Drove back from Scotland yesterday, bit earlier than planned but think my plan was bad :p I realised mid-week that I was kinda dreading the drive back, no stops planned so ~375 miles and ~7.5-8 hours and had planned to do that on Sunday. Issue being that would leave me getting back late afternoon Sunday probably knackered and I didn't want to then go straight back to work Monday. So changed the plan to come back Saturday, but then the weather forecast was decidedly meh for Friday so I thought sod it I'll head back on Friday, in time for poker night :p

Long drive though, ended up stopping briefly in Gretna Green before driving the next ~6 hours back home without stopping, oof. But, put my bucket seat in the MX-5 and I was surprisingly fine!

Anyway, to the golf!

So 8 days, 8 rounds, 5 were NCG comps and 3 were solo rounds, thought I'd put a brief note for each cause why not:

Wallasey - Home of Stableford! Can see why with the 2nd being a ~450 yard par 4 into the wind... Nice course, fast greens, absolutely stunning 'presentation', the little bits like the mown paths between green to tee, the bunker rivetting, the flags, the logo in the hole cups, tiny things that just elevated it as 'an experience' imo
Caldy - Had only really heard of it via a Peter Finch quest for the open video, nice little course and ended up being my best round points wise for the holiday at 38 points, also sealed my place in the NCG Grand Final (it kinda was already in there but that got my 6th place and a bunch o' points for the order of merit)
Seascale - Solo round, really nice course, bit of everything with some nice views and then some views of Sellafield and warning signs which are something at least, windy and basic clubhouse but decent. Good food after the round as well. Would happily go back.
Girvan - Finally in Scotland, another solo round, felt the course was in decent condition, especially for the price, but I have a thing about long par 3's, and Girvan has a bunch of long par 3's, so me and Girvan will never get along :p
Kilmarnock Barassie - First of the 3 day NCG comps, played the same 3 courses last year as well so 'knew' the course. Played solidly I'd say, nothing spectacular, but solid. One thing was the previous year I think I went in with 'expectations' for the course and came out unfulfilled, this year I think I got a better impression of the course and it was good really, glad I went back and saw it with a bit less of a filter.
Dundonald Links - Similar to Barassie in terms of impression/revisiting it as well. Wind though was brutal, felt like 35-40mph gusts and was just hard work.
Prestwick St. Nicholas - Last year I came away feeling positive about this course and I think that sticks, I like it, maybe not to the extend I'd rate it above the other two, they're all good courses, but I do still like it. Except the last hole. Sod that. Again really windy, again really tough, made a bunch of my points on the back 8 or so that were downwind tbh.
Belleisle - Decided to visit @booyaka's home course to see what's up :p Pretty different to all the others which were links to some extent or other as I'd class it as a parklands course but it's a lovely park/area, really pretty environment to spend a few hours playing golf. I felt the front 9 was distinctly easier than the back 9, but maybe I just started playing worse :p

Overall a really good trip, very little rain really with just 1 hole at Caldy and Seascale and the first ~10-11 of Girvan but I had waterproofs so it was fine, everything else was dry and sunny with maybe a touch too much wind for me.

In general I played decently I'd say, Caldy was 38 points, I think Belleisle was 36, rest around the 30 mark give or take which seems 'ok', never really hooked up that 'everything clicks for a bit' round but some good golf.

Several of the comp rounds counted and my handicap dipped as low as 15.7 after Kilmarnock Barassie but now back up to 16.2. Still lowest it's ever been.

Biggest issue felt like the wind, I have zero ability to control my ball flight/hit a knockdown shot and it showed! Playing Dundonald and Prestwick St. Nicholas especially, both times playing with people who were consistently hitting low penetrating shots and mine were balloooning up and going nowhere. Last hole at Prestwick St. Nicholas one guy hit a 5 iron, admitting he wasn't getting there but basically playing it as a par 4. I hit 2 iron basically doing the same. His 5 iron was marginally ahead of my 2 iron, and I don't think there was a big difference in swing speed or anything, his just launched lower and didn't get as badly hit by the wind. Something to work on.

The NCG grand final is at Northamptonshire County Golf Club on the 14th, should be fun, winner gets a TaylorMade fitting at The Grove plus a nights stay and a round of golf, just need to have that day where everything clicks :p

Ah darn, was expecting a handicap cut overnight, but it's stayed the same. Must have missed a score or something. The new score on is counting though so not too bad.

Played in a members invitation with playing partner from our old club yesterday. I hadn't played the course previously

Started with 8 pars in a row as just couldn't get a putt to drop, but even the members admitted the greens are terrible

Made a double on 9 and then the back 9 was a bit mixed with a few bogeys and pars, despite more birdie looks

Finished with a 78(+6) on my own ball, and we finished 10th overall on countback with 42 points

Playing again today with my wife and another couple at our new home course, so already expecting to have issues on the greens as ours are much better and quicker lol

Went out today and forgot how to play, this game.. WHY do we do it to ourselves haha.
with you there. I played what I would call and a reasonable round of golf, could have been better but could have been worse. This morning I went out and was 12 over my handicap... As usual the off t inconsistencies, if someone offered me 170 yards down the middle each time and play from there I would as I loose a few balls a round of the tee which puts me on the back foot. We had a very low cloud today and it was cold, the greens and course were very wet so the ball just wasn't running. I hit my 7 iron around 145cary expecting it to roll out 5-10 yards maybe but today it had a small hop and stop, maybe a few feet of roll out.
Winter t boxes are out on the 1st of November so that'll be it for handicap for the year. reflection this year is I've done miles better then I aimed for.

For me my biggest issue an I have a session booked with my coach next week. I have a tendency to sightly pull it with a slight draw. Bad news bears when that happens.

Out again today, ended up at the range yesterday and did a bit of gapping especially around the upper end of the bag with getting numbers for my 5 iron, 2 iron, 7 wood and new 3 wood. I also went in trying to do two things, firstly using the bit of gapping I did try to be more realistic with distances and hit more greens but more than that I read about a stat that seems interesting called 'GIR+1', pretty simple really but obviously getting that means you're at worst putting for par and so 'should' get bogey or better, theoretically...

Anyway, played really solid, but 'only' 14 GIR+1's, think I read/saw that someone scoring regularly in the 70's gets 16+ or something, I shot 81 so seems reasonable :p

Still, 81, which on that course/with my current handicap is 36 points, happy with that, except that I get so few shots :p

Of the 4 holes I failed to get GIR+1 on 2 were 'ok' really, 2 were just bad holes/ball striking from me. First I was in a greenside bunker on a par 3, downslope and some bunker to clear I hit it a bit clean and landed mid green and it just rolled off the far side, up and down for bogey. Second I was next to the green in 2 but faced with a very difficult chip, hit a very good chip but rolled off the other side, again up and down for a bogey though. I guess typing that out both of those were 'bad misses' leaving very tricky shots to get that GIR+1...

Still, good to have a nice clean solid round tbh, no pickups is always good.

Because we are gluttons for punishment haha

Hope you are doing okay bud, will have to catch up some time

Played this afternoon with friends who might join our club and somehow shot -2 on the back 9 for a total of 73(+1)

Didn't even realise until I checked my Garmin app when we got home. I knew I had shot +1 but hadn't realised a lot of that was on the back half overall as I was just entering the scores on my watch as we went

I always tell myself that I should go out again soon after as I can hardly shoot any worse.... ;)
The next round is usually when you consider giving up golf...
Then you leave it a random number of days or weeks and come back and relax into it... you play a mediocre round but hit just one stunning shot... the golf rollercoaster gave you some tingles.... so you keep going back for more.
