Gone and done it

OMG open the ram and gimmeh pictures!!!!!

That box for it is just the most epic ram box ever!

No unboxing pictues with stuff as sweet as this should = ban

OP has made me feel so green and jelly like that I had to take this picture to try and make me feel like all my stuff was new again:

But then I click on this thread and see #32 and the jelly feelings return :(

My only problem though is the lack of Rampage IV Extreme, and not having gone for the 2133 Mhz rams!

So there is OMG amazement, plus a dash of disappointment too in this thread.

Forgive my bad manners

Its ok, I'm willing to forgive you if you post them to me naow!!!!!

Well, not really, for they wouldnt fit under my new cooler :(

But thats like some of the best ram ever made, I simply want it.

Where do you live, and can you give me a date when your house will be unattended? Please leave the door unlocked too.

Out of curiosity - what would be the benefit of the 2133Mhz sticks over the 1866 stuff? It`s an extra hundred quid for 300mhz would that have any real advantage?

No, its just higher numbers that look pretty in CPUZ screenshots while benching :)

I simply like overclocking and like to see stuff running at more MHZ.

Cool thanks for the reply, i`m still learning this stuff and in the process of ordering parts for my first self build. I take it overall overclockability of the cpu isn`t affected?

Oh no, for general PC use and gaming dont worry about ram speed, all you need is 1600 mhz 9-9-9. The CPU can still be overclocked with the ram left at 1600 Mhz.

Also you dont need LGA 2011 for your first build, stick to a 2500k.

LGA 2011 is an overclockers dream socket for both CPU and ram speeds, check this thread out, 8x8 Gb G Skill sticks @ 2600 Mhz

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?276834-GSkill-64GB-2600MHz...

That stuffs gonna cost a massive fortune, though it isnt needed by anyone.

Getting LGA 2011 with slow ram is just lame when it works with 8 ram modules well beyond 2400 Mhz.

Cheers bhavv. I`m actually building primarily as a mid-high workstation for multimedia design ( so basically everything from 3d modelling / rendering to flash / photoshop / illustrator and motion graphics in aftereffects ) - and probably a bit of BF3 too :) So really as meaty as i can get without paying over the odds. It`s crazy the corsair 4x8gb sticks are like 4/500 quid - hefty. Probably be going for either a couple of corsair 16gb kits or the same ripjaws as Pooh above..

I'm afraid I don't have any 4K Red files to play with.

One of the comparisons I will be doing is converting a 15 minute 1080 .TS file into a WMV file. The current rig took 1 hour 12 mins.

Having the GTX570 helps with PPro and the CUDA work like a charm to accelerate effects

Well it was time to break open the boxes and build the beast

There not a lot of room in here - Rad will need to go outside

Now with some of the gubbins in and trying to figure out the plumbing and cabling

Getting there....

Front panel back on - and the Guinness has hardly been touched

Plumbing complete

Leak testing - and none found glad to say

Overall it was a bit of a pig to sort out due to

a - lack of space in the case

b - very poor documentation in the bundled water cooling kit. It also said it was socket 2011 compatible but it did not have the correct fitting. I had to bodge a solution out of the bits in the kit.

It's up and running now and the initial comparisons are good. I'll put some more info up after I've had to time to check it out properly.

I have got the tubing to the waterblock the wrong way round as the input should be at the lower side to avoid any air pockets. Seems to be doing ok still though and I can't be bothered draining the system just yet to swap them round.

.

Cool you have the same case as me! Given its size its pretty amazing what you can fit in there. I couldn't believe the silver arrow cooler fit inside the case perfectly.
