31. I don't have 5 hours of free time a day really.

10am-6pm work, gym/swim in the morning. Get home, cook eat and chillout watching tv usually or maybe go for a run before eating dinner. Sometimes mid week gig / sport / cinema etc or attempt to learn something to better myself at my job

Weekends im usually out or visiting family. I would be out now but im working (good job really, i need a break. Good job I can waste some time on these forums :p

See, now you just sound like a dick.

You should be advertising cars, or those 20 second 'live my life' aftershave adverts, or panty liners with you uber busy lifestyle.

'Recommend me a game, but don't waste my time with games i haven't got the time to play, i only have a certain amount of time to fill which must fit into my schedule'

would have been the better title.

At 31 I was in my gaming prime, nothing for me to finish work at 5pm and game from 6pm until 4am and get up for work at 8am.

Sadly them days are over as nothing is released that compels me anymore in gaming.

Am 44 and seen it all been gaming since 1982, I have hammered games to death.

I would just take a break and see what happens over the next 12 months.

I just play Elite Dangerous now and again, I hammered Elite 1&2 to death as I was unemployed at the time and spent so many hours on them you would not believe.

I will admit from all my gaming experience we are at an all time low, I think its a bit like music.

I used to love music and still do but the is nothing new I listen to, as its all been done.

The saturation point in games has happened I think, just like modern music.
The is only so many notes you can play, just like the is only so many games you can play.

I'm feeling similar to the OP and I have had similar thoughts to you. I just wonder if it's a sign of getting older?

Do you think the new gaming generation are having just as much fun as we did at that time?

Nah I get this. I have a new daughter, new job and all sorts of stuff going on in my life, so it's hard to find the time to really get stuck into a good single player game.

I must say I just picked up a rift and am loving elite dangerous in it. It's like it was made for VR. Other than that, if you want something simple, with potential to have a very high skill ceiling, and that you can jump in for 5 mins or more to suit your schedule, I highly recommend rocket league. Definitely try to find some mates to play with, but it's our go to game when you just fancy some fun.

If you prefer SP experiences, witcher 3 is always an amazing game to play if you haven't already, but it does need a good hour or so for a decent session. Maybe something like subnautica if you like the crafting type games.

I suggest the new Doom. Great game, simple to get into and play.

Or try some old classics like half life 2 or one of the stalker games.

Stick to shorter games.

I mostly play Indie titles, because the mechanics tend to be tighter, game length shorter, and much less story-heavy (as I forget what's happening when I don't play for a week).

i had a break for a couple of moths but just started again with wow and the bf1 beta im liking the bf1 wow is the same old thing dont think ill be playing it for much longer

The thing is, its not like I actually feel busy

People manage to work, go to the gym and do everything else at the same time as having a family. There's a guy a work in his early 40s with 2 kids who manages to game for a couple of hours a day.

Maybe he plays in the morning before work or stays up really late. Personally i'm a fan of sleep - usually 8 hours an night. Maybe people just cut back and function fine on 4 or 5.

Same for me as Devrij, when I tried a couple of games on the Rift it really made me think how great gaming was again, it sort of took me back to when I was 10 and first sat in the full size Ridge Racer car at Meahowhall in the arcade in front of the huge CTR TV... maybe it was the Rift that killed gaming as it made it so good!? Hopefully it has only done so for a short period of time

I think when you play games for an (x) amount of years everything starts to feel rehashed to a point and is less exciting/fun/original etc from when you first started gaming.

It's weird though as VR was meant to be the next biggest level of immersion which takes gaming to another level of enjoyment. Why aren't you enjoying it?

Franchises that I loved feel mundane now (COD, Battlefield) however I do other things to occupy my time with instead of trying to get into a game for the sake of it.

New IPs that come out can be engaging but they are few and far between.

VR does take it to another level.
Like when I put in 100 hours + though in Squad, in VR I have played around 30 hours in quite a short space of time. I think too much often kills the experience for a certain amount of time.

I did buy a SNES and Megadrive not long back and played quite a lot. Also Amiga games, specifically Cannon fodder - I got to level ~25 with no deaths so have probably overdone it

Nope I can go very deep with games still, I play and look out for a lot of indie games as they seem more interesting than AAA's.

But nothing has caught my eye this year so far.

I still look at development of project Zomboid but the developers are far to slow.

I enjoyed prison architect until they made it stupidly complex.

Loved Kerbal space program but again its gone very stale.

GTA 5 I have still not completed and still have it installed, but every time I modded it. I would play again and if I forgot to disconnect the internet it would un mod the game on me.

The new CIV6 might wet my whistle I will wait and see.

As for the new generation having as much fun as us old folk? Not a chance in hell far too many games being released. They basically spoilt for choice and seem to have very short attention spans.

I would love to see a 13 year old this day and age complete Ghosts and Goblins, lets see how they handle the epic troll at the end. :D

Great point. Far too much selection now a days.

I say take all games away and give 13 year olds Alien Breed Tower Assault

I go through these phases all the time and sometimes they last months. Kinda getting into one now.

Best thing do is find something else to do, especially now we have some half decent weather. Try new hobbies and after a while the bug to game again comes back.

In all honesty it's the best way be instead of just gaming every day.

Maybe find an active community to join. Even if a game you do not normally play, good/abusive banter is always a good laugh :D

It was different in the old days. As much as anything, I would only get about half a dozen games each year, so had to play the same ones over and over a lot.

On the subject of tough games, though, if anyone fancies a Ghouls & Ghosts type of experience, I would wholeheartedly recommend Volgarr the Viking. Something of a G&G / Rastan inspired setup. It's actually my favourite game of the past 9 or 10 years - just great fun.
