Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

Thanks for the reply Little Crow, on another note anyone have any issues with iTunes on the server?

Plus would it serve me well to upgrade the memory or will 2Gb be fine?

Now got one of these running WHS 2011, I have put some .MKV video files on there, any suggestions on what I can use to play the content on my TV? I have a PS3 and Xbox but doesn't look like there .mkv compatible was almost thinking of putting a graphics card in it and playing it direct from microserver but are there any media players that support WHS 2011?. Also can anyone recommend some apps for the iphone that will let me play music or video from WHS 2011.

You can buy a Graphics Card and use pretty much any media player that would work on Windows 7. I bought a 6450 and just attached to my TV with a HDMI cable and use Plex Media Centre to play stuff back, although I have Server 2008R2 installed, not WHS.

Or you can install some sort of transocding software that presents itself to the 360/PS3 as a DLNA server. Plex Media Server or PS3 Media Server both work, There are loads more you could try.

Not sure which software streams to an iPhone.

Take a look at TVersity mate, i use it for streaming to 360, PS3 & iPad but i have not got the mkv file to work. If you mainly want to stream mkv files also look at Serviio, this work great on the PS3 (wireless) but 360 (wired) stuttered every 3 or 4 seconds on a file size of 1.5GB.

Also TVersity to stream video to iphone ect you will need the pro version.

I can recommend Serviio, it runs flawless on my HP Server.

Have a question for those use drive extender or similar.

I have 2x 2TB drives i use for TV episodes which both are just about full and if i install drive extender will i loose everthing on the drives?

Also if 1 of the drives fail will i loose everything from both drives or just the failed drive?

My micro server runs serviio. It streams to my Samsung tv fine but when I try and stream to ps3 upstairs I get network error messages for mkv files. Would love to be able to stream to booth.

I've got a raspberry pi on pre order. Plan is to run xbmc on it and stream from micro server. If its any good I'll buy another raspberry pi for downstairs

Just been reading this:
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphire/HD_6450_Passive/25.html
Are the Sapphire cards really upto half the power under some circumstances?

Was just going to grab whichever had the longest warranty for around £30 but the sapphire one seems to be a better low power option, however the standard 6450s according to that can give upto 30% more performance.

Just seen this custom BIOS, have it running my one of my NL36 boxes and can adjust the onboard SATA Rate to 3.0Gbps aswell as lots of other things that can be tweaked:

hopefully of use to somebody?

Will this work with the N40?

What sort of transfer speeds are you guys getting between discs in the server? Mine only seems to do 40mb.

Ignore that last bit, if I remote in it transfers at 90-100mb/s.

Has anyone got there's setup with Hyper-V in 'Core' mode (ie command line only) and able to remotely manage without joining to a domain? Having real problems connecting to mine without a domain at home

Maybe I am being thick but the cashback offer seems to be for companies that purchase this? Or did you all just put your own name for the company name?
