Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

Does anyone know if the SATA controller supports anything other than RAID 0 or 1?

It's the only thing putting me off right now.

Cheers for the feedback MarcLister; I was currently looking at the N40L, mind, as I can still hunt that down with a cashback offer. Not really willing to spend more than £150~ on a solution right now.
Can't find any mention of RAID10 with regard to the N40L, which is a shame, as that would have been a nice compromise.
 
I thought the N40L only had 2 RAM slots? The link you posted is for 4GB sticks - max 8GB? Not sure I've seen any compatable 8GB sticks.

Interested to hear from owners.

If thats where i got mine from it also comes with the CD-ROM. Keyboard & mouse where as others dont supply this, in particular the CD-ROM.

I posted off my claim form the other day but before doing so i emailed the claims/promo department to see if i could speed up the process by emailing them and thy said that was fine. Thought it might of been easier seeing i had been sent an invoice via email. All i had to do was provide my details along with the serial number of the machine.

Just a heads up.

N40L does have two RAM slots I seem to remember. What link do you mean? I haven't posted any myself. :) I just saw one that Ash2097 posted and seized upon the opportunity!

I don't recall saying anything about 2GB apart from the G7 has 2GB pre-installed and I plan to replace it with 4 x 4GB sticks. :o:confused:

But yes, I'm sure it was a typo. ;)

Really? KB and mouse too? Well I shall find out tomorrow hopefully. I'm sure it has a DVD drive as there's nothing to say it doesn't whereas other ML110 servers on that site do have mentions of DVD drives needed. If it doesn't come with a DVD drive, I've either got one or I'll get one. The main reason I'm buying now is to get the £50 rebate.

Cool. I might try that as well. Are you on MSN? I like to keep in contact with as many people using either this server or doing MCITP stuff so we can exchange advice and info. :)

Not on MSN mate but i spend a lot on time on linkedin which is very good and has some great groups and some very helpful people.
 
Well my ML110 G7 did indeed come today. And you were right, Lorddalron, it does indeed come with a keyboard and mouse. :) I got home later than usual today so I only had a quick look. I will unpack it more tomorrow and take some pics for both this thread and the Pics of what you bought in April thread in GD. :cool:

I'll also try to email my claim form to HP like you did and save some time. ;)
 
Nope was just planning on havin this setup behind the TV with everything set as local shares. What advantages would configuring a domain give me?

Just reinstalling and reupdating the 2008r2 now, set it up weeks ago when I installed it and made a password Ic ant remember :p Doh!

Devices in other rooms will be 2 PCs, coupla squeezeboxes and media streaming on a touchpad.

Are there any essentials I need to install to get this running as close to win7 as possible?
The PC is also used by whoever needs to when in the living room.

Also were away on holiday soon and Ideally would like to be able to stream from this if were stuck in doors, whats the best way? I'm guessing theres a proper way to do it rather than install teamviewer :p

Should work out for you. I got an email on Tuesday to say the claim had been verified and process and i shall receive the check within the next 28 days.
