Worked fine for me... had a issue with a duff drive a few weeks ago and HP sent a replacement next day to my home address. The server comes with next day buisness warranty :) Hurrah!!!!

FYI the drive they sent me was a 250 Gb WD Black (R2 I think) instead of the slimline Sammy which comes as standard

Isn't hard, besides not knowing means you research and eventually self teach yourself how to use a new product. All my technical knowledge has come from experience.
 
Right so had a look on the tube etc
At the moment I have
64 gig - SSD HTPC boot drive
2tb - HTPC 1TB used
1tb - In main PC Backup of HTPC data
500gig - In main PC - Photos, games etc backed up to a laptop 360 gig hard drive through a caddy
300gig - In main PC - Storage can be wiped no worries
350 gig - Main PC boot drive - Raptor

I will want to select the 2tb drive as parity as I understand it has to be the bigger drive. The bit im worried about is which order I put the drives in so that I can keep the HTPC data without wiping it, any advice would be greatly received.

Just brought an ML110 to assist with my MS certifications. Ive already loaded W2K8R2 but yet to max the RAM from 2gb>16GB but will do so when the prep time comes. Just finishing off Cisco course however i plan to buy my 70-640 book next week so may get stuck in to Active directory sooner than later.
 
Thinking of buying the N4 as Im getting infinity installed next week. Going to install WHS 2011 on it. However, I have a Macbook Pro which I use a lot (ableton, logic, Traktor). So I have a couple of questions if anyone can help me out that would be great.

1) iTunes server so that I listen to playlists on my desktop windows machine at home. Apple have seemed to make this impossible and I'm only finding companys own software to do this (HP, Synology). Can't seem to find any free software. I should add that sharing the itunes database file is not what I'm after.

2) Time Machine. I would love to be able to free up space on my optidrive so if I could run a Time Machine partition on the server that would be awesome. It would be even more awesome. I assume it needs to be a osx file system.

3) The server will be magically getting music on it and organising it to a music partition. I would love for this to sync with my Macbook so that new music is pushed to the macbook and any updated music files are synced with the server. Not sure where to start in this one.

Yeah, just seen your pics in another thread. It looks nice. How is it working for you so far? :)

I also want to do a Cisco CCNA course but considering that has an expiry date of 3 years or so I'm going to do that after I get my Microsoft qualifications that I want.

As for needing 16GB of RAM, I'm going on this from another thread in this sub-forum. :) I think seeing as the RAM linked to on Overclocker's shop is so cheap, £60 for 16GB makes sense from a financial point of view; it's so cheap, why not get it all now? :p

Haven't really started to use it as such yet mate. Ive got it up and running and installed the 180day trial of W2K8R2 and managed to get the remote desktop working but just waiting to get my 70-640 book to start into it, however i want to get my CCENT out of the way first of all. Its a nice bit of kit, as mentioned im going to sort the RAM out first just to have enough for any future VM ventures then will consider filling up the spare HDD bays.

In regards to the CCNA expiring in 3 years. It is a downside yea considering Microsoft certification last as long as the software itself is in motion which could be x amount of years. If i were to stick with the Cisco program id probably take it in steps working my way up to CCIE. Remember you can always resit the CCNA (ICND2) exam when it expires so you have half a clue rather than going to the next level up. Al depends on what your career path is. Im going to focus on MS certs for the next few years then go back to the CCNA after i have a good few years on hands on experience.
 
@MarcLister: forgot to mention mate that i too was going to go for the N40L to begin with but after some pretty one sided opinions regarding the max RAM capabilities of the N40, the M110 G7 seemed the better option and more future proof. Especially as a learning machine running multiple VM's.

Either way, try and make your mind up in the next few days to take advantage of the cash back offers. £100 on the N40L and £50 on the G7.

Sounds good. :) Think I'm going to buy one now, well in a minute! :D Found a G7 for £280, so £230 after the rebate, ain't too shabby that! :cool: I won't necessarily start my MCITP right away but mainly getting the server now to get the £50 which would almost cover the £60 for the 16GB RAM from OcUK. :)

Yeah, knowing my luck Microsoft will mess Windows Server 2008 around so the MCITP, when I get it, becomes out of date after three years. :p And if I'm not ready for the CCNP when my CCNA expires I'd just retake the CCNA.

My original plan was to get the N40L as everyone else seemed to be but I realised that most people were getting the N40L as a home server to stream music. I wanted a server for MCITP/CCNA stuff so I was sure I needed something a bit more powerful. 2GB RAM limit (or perhaps 8GB eh?) on the N40L is just way too low, 16GB on the G7 is probably more than enough so I'll get a G7. :)

Yeah. Very good value for money, look lovely. Can't understand why it seems that only recently have HP and others realised the gap in the market for SOHO servers for people/families/small businesses wanting cheap, basic servers.
