Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

So the direct place had plenty stock (apparently) when I ordered for the cheaper price. Having just checked my account it seems they actually didn't have any stock and I now have to wait for them to receive more stock :(

Me too mate, says 5-10 days :( I don't mind waiting though.

I missed the cheaper price :(... But now I'm confused because the new higher price still says "after cashback" and yet it's the same as the plus place's price without the cashback....

didn't put the warranty in the basket when i bought it. If i buy the warranty on a separate purchase will the cashback for that still work too?

basically, do the server AND warranty have to be on the same reciept?

If you're using it for a workplace test environment I'd buy the warranty, otherwise not worth it imo. Other than hard disks, if a server fails it's generally under 1 year or after 5 years in my experience.

thanks for the tip

i did laugh at the idea of HP sending around a server technician to my bedroom...would blatantly just sit there in my pants and play games whilst he did what he needed

Me three.

I was told yesterday that mine would arrive today. Tempted to cancel and go elsewhere now..

Are they an authorised retailer (whay about Rainforest marker place)?

PLUS are authorised yeah :)

Rainforest..depends on the smaller store, be careful though! I've heard stories of people ordering from a store based in Spain through the rainforest...no cashback available on that

SHIPPPPPPPPED :D. Should get it tomorrow by 5:30pm :)

I might bite the bullet this time seeing as there won't be many left with Gen 8 coming through. What SSD do people recommend? Need a cheap(ish) 64/128Gb one.

I just ordered a 3.5" HDD tray for the 5.25" bay, but I can't remember what cables I need to connect it to the power? I know I need a sata cable.

Never mind managed to find my order history for the first n40l I done.

Bought myself another this morning. Don't need it, bought it anyway.

I'll probably keep this one boxed and flog it for a profit when the N54L stock finally runs dry.

Seen some sites running out of stock. Ordered :D. Will upgrade the following over the coming months:

64GB SSD
8GB RAM
Akasa AK-FN058 Apache Black Super Silent 120mm Fan
3TB HD
Windows 8

Should do nicely as my first HTPC.

Whatever you can get cheaply from Crucial or Samsung really, the box is SATA II so latest and greatest is overkill. I've got 128GB M4's in both of mine as boot drives as they were cheap at the time. Those Crucial V4's would do the trick too as they are pretty cheap.

PS for those of you ordering off PLUS, remember to google for a free shipping code!
