Has anyone manage to install windows 8.1 with the standard nic?
As it stands currently, you can get 8.1 and server 2012 R2 to install successfully if you disable the on-board NIC. If you don't then they both hang during install. But if you want to use it on a network you will need a 3rd party PCI-e NIC for the time being until updated drivers are released by HP for the on-board NIC.
From what I've seen on other forums, HP have said they are releasing an update sometime in December but they aren't guaranteeing that it will work as officially they aren't supporting 8.1/2012 R2 on any G7 microserver.
Most annoying as I have some 2012 R2 licenses but can't use them as I want 2 NIC's and a PCI-e raid cardStuck on 2012 for now
Have you guys tried using the driver you can get directly from broadcom? They have a W8.1 driver.
The network controller chip inside the microserver is supposedly a Broadcom BCM5723
