Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

Its not a myth, I've seen pictures..
Loogle the part number

832667-001

Just spoken to our HP guy.

It's a none order-able part as it's classed as a commodity by HP.
It may exist, but users don't get to play with it. :(

Best advice given, look for a rack server that has it at stock and salvage it from it. (he's trying to track down boxes that it would have been shipped with for me)

It'll come eventually, wonder if all of the new SKU's come with that heatsink or if it only comes with ones with a certain CPU or above..

The cashback is still on, cant link it directly due to it probably being a competitor link but if you google hp microserver cash back you should find the link to the form.

It was listed as the Microserver with the I3 Chipset.

I'm not 100% sure if HP classify the current range as the I3 chipset or if they plan on releasing a 'improved' version but HP didn't know or didn't want to say.

How exactly does it work? So if I order it from the rainforest for £170 (the 4GB Celeron model) I can claim cash back?

Is this the correct form?

EDIT Got it. So is this base model still a good buy for £170? Shall I just stick two 3TB WD Reds in and a 60GB SSD? I'll be running WS2012, and running it primarily as a NAS and Plex server (No transcoding).

For £170 it's a cracking price... cheaper than Synology and better!

You can still claim the cashback though, I think.

From the main competitor where I bought both of mine, the price is still £364 today.

Thanks. Ordered it last night. £120 after my £50 voucher was deducted, and I'll be able to claim the £55 cashback too. I think Amazon had a £10 off any order over £50 yesterday too. Work gave me a 120GB SSD and they reckon they have some 4TB drives spare so I'm potentially going to have a very cheap server soon :D

The £10 off was for a £50 spend on an Amazon sale not from a 3rd party, which if you bought the one I think you did it wouldn't have qualified anyway.

Also I am not sure that the actual seller you therefore would have got it from will be a HP partner and thus qualify for the cashback.

Why are people still buying these over the dell T20 at £97 inc cash back. The Dell comes with a Intel Pentium G3220 (3M Cache, 3.00 GHz) too which can be replaced with a Xeon at a later date if you need more power.

The T20 by far out performs the N54L it replaced.

I'm looking at a new server, something a bit bigger that I can stick a GPU into as well as the rest of the kit I have in my Gen8..

Reason I have the Gen8 is becasue of its size, if I go bigger then I'll have to move it...

Picked up a steal today, Microserver G7 for 40 quid locally with the stock HDD and a extra network card in the pci slot.

Now im looking for a gpu for this which is less than 25w and one which fits (So i can use it for xmbc occasionally) Main use is a file server but with it being hooked up to tv id like use of xmbc also :) So must be hdmi and sound capable card

Suggestions? Also what OS is best atm its got Linux on atm but i was thinking more windows way on if owt
