good cider?

plus pear cider is rotten, it has such a bland taste it is unreal! yeah Stella Cidre is not too bad, its not too sweet and not too dry, just nice! though best one has to be Westons Vintage Cider, good crack that is!

Just popped into Wetherspoons for a drink whilst waiting for someone and tried a random cider they had on (cider festival atm). It was a 'Devon Scrumpy' by Sandford Orchards. Was pretty nice. :)

I quite like our local stuff:

Either that or the cheap red apple stuff from my local French importers - £1.24 a bottle.

thats what i like to see  a bit of local cider :p

Clearly there is a lot of people in this thread who have not tasted a real cider.

These are all crap,

Bulmers
Magners
Pear Cider
Strongbow
Aspalls
White lighting
etc etc.

Eh? Why is Aspall in there?

Premier Cru has been awarded World's Best Cider and World's Best Dry Cider in the 2008 World Cider Awards run by Beers of The World Magazine. It was described by the judges as "an elegant and well bred dry cider, with a soft fragrant nose and enough earthy apple notes to keep its feet on the ground" Premier Cru has also won the first prize in the Quality Drink Awards 2008, receiving high praise from the judges who described it as the "gewurtztraminer" of the cider world.

We got some at a place near The Lizzard in Cornwall, I think it was ok anyway......the sampling part was pretty good :D

I think it was there anyway, pretty sure we were visiting kynance cove when we got that Scrumpy.

I used to like Strongbow but I have been drinking so many other ciders recently that I can no longer enjoy a Strongbow.

We've been spoiled by so many really excellent ciders becoming widely available recently. Years ago it was impossible to find any in the shops and you'd have to order online or find an out the way shop that happened to sell good ciders.

Old Rosie rawks. Surprisingly widely available too.
I'm in Somerset though so spoiled for choice, often pop over to Richs and get a half and half carton of medium/dry.

Back in the 70's my dad was working constructing the Heysham power station, used to make runs back to Somerset every week and load up the car with scrumpy to sell on to the poor deprived northerners :)

Mini bump!

(well almost necro posting!)

I've developed a taste for Addlestones which I can get a pint or 6 of at my local but I simply cannot buy it in bottled form where I live - anyone know where it can be bought?

:)

Big fan of Thatchers, with Old Rascal, Katy, and Gold regulary making their way down my throat. Tried a pint of their Cheddar once, wasn't fond of it. Lovely colour, but the taste seemed a bit bland.

I remember going to JAE (Japanese Auto Extravaganza; 3 day car camping festival), and some of the Southern lads brought up about 10 5L jugs of Thatchers draught. Got absolutely hammered, was almost comatose at times.

Have had a pint or two of Stowford Press at Wetherspoons before, was a pleasant cider tbh!
