good cider?

I've been a cider man all my life, I'll quite happily drink Strongbow and being 18 years old is a long way back in my past. Surprised to see snobbery from a "cider enthusiast" to be honest. In a city centre pub you take what you get, luckily where I live I'm also blessed with pubs who do actually serve plenty of local stuff :)

Thread title is 'good cider', not 'cider you drink when you have no choice'.

It's not really snobbery, Strongbow genuinely is awful compared to Westons, Aspell, etc. When I'm at a pub I'll have what they have, sure, but as above, the thread title wasn't 'what do you like to get mashed on in Wetherspoon's on a Saturday night'.

I quite like our local stuff:

Either that or the cheap red apple stuff from my local French importers - £1.24 a bottle.

Well we differ, only as I don't see Stronbow as "awful". Sure there are better ciders out there, but I don't find 'bow too bad :)

I don't like Magners, Bulmers is OK if on offer. I'm surprised quite a few here like Aspnalls and Hennys, I've never really taken to them. I'm just glad there is a wide choice to suit all our tastes :)

The one thing that I haven't liked over the years it the rising popularity of cider, all that has done is push the price up! The same cider I used to buy down the market is now triple the price as it's a "premium gastro product" now. Luckily there are still plenty of reasonably priced locally produced stuff though :)

Oh and Perry ain't Perry unless it's made with Perry pears! :D

Has Scrumpy Jack been mentioned yet? Another that is nice mixed half and half with Westons Scrumpy. Is it wrong that I also like a slice of lemon in my Cheddar Valley?... :D

So you like Strongbow but can't understand why people like Westons and Aspall? Just lol :D.

I try and respect all tastes and opinions, but yours is honestly just bizarre :p.

You didn't read this bit then... "I'm just glad there is a wide choice to suit all our tastes " and where did I say I didn't like Westons?

The sales of Strongbow and all say otherwise. As if there were that bad no-one would drink them would they?...

I thought you mean Henry's, as in Henry Westons, for some reason. Same holds true for Aspells though, it's far FAR better than Strongbow.

Bless! Well it wouldn't be the first urine disguised as an alcoholic beverage that managed to sell in droves (think Carling).

Yes of course, loads of people drink it because it tastes like urine...

You don't like it fair enough, others do though. You like Aspalls, I find it distinctly average at best. Amazingly it would appear we have different tastes, and I'm quite happy for you to like something different to myself... :)

Lol you are so naive about marketing! There are loads of crap products that still get swallowed up because the branding appeals to a certain sector. As I said, I will drink it because that's what they sell it chain pubs. However that doesn't make it good. I suppose Fiat Pandas are a great example of a fine car just because lots of people buy them?

Of course all opinions are great, differing opinions are welcome as this is what makes a discussion...but you are in the serious minority if you believe that Strongbow has any place in this thread about 'good cider'.

You've clearly no clue at all. I give up.
