I think I will be just going for an x1800 XT anyways. The price is the big seller plus from what I am reading in reviews the 7800 and the x1800 are roughly the same.

xknight2000 said:Thanks guys. Now the big decision of a nVidia 7800GT or a x1800 XT. £200 is my limit because I still have an Xbox360 to get at some stage and I dont want to be too skint.
Only Quake 4 at the momentACESHIGH said:Was offering you the cheaper alternative, but yes the X1800XT 512MB would be better at higher resolutions 1280x1024 or above & with AA/AF.
Also game engines will possibly use 512MB ram more often in the future.
Id change the Gfx but id keep the single 2 gig stick, the loss in performance is tiny but come 12 months time when Vista is out and people are starting to look at 4 gig as being an absolute must for gaming then he will be laughing.trojan698 said:The 27th?! Shouldnt be too late to change the order! Swap the gfx card and perhaps the 1 x 2gb stick for a 2gb dual channel kit!
if your going to do that then i would change the motherboard to a crossfire board aswell otherwise in the future your gonna have to get a new motherboard to go crossfire or 2 new cards to go SLIxknight2000 said:I think I will be just going for an x1800 XT anyways. Might it not be a good idea to actually wait until you've got the new PC, loaded the games and seen what it's like? Isn't it quite possible that the current setup will be fine? Whilst faster configurations do exist that doesn't mean you can't get a good game out of what you've got.xknight2000 said:I think I will be just going for an x1800 XT anyways.
