GOOD VR games?

update on the vr games i bought

The Solus Project

Excellent visuals and exploring. But gamebreaker for me was the movement. Despite the number of control methods i couldnt get on with any of them. Comfort movement is ridiculous. They didnt have normal movement just many variations that they thought would help with motion sickness..unfortunately it didnt just made it worse. /refunded

Dead Secret

Sort of scary detective type game
Even though it says Vive and not Oculus i tried this (its out for the gearvr as well i think). It works great. You move by clicking a link but then you see your character move..not teleport etc you can also move around a bit and do a lot of bending and peering round corners and underneath sofas etc. In fact this is part of the gameplay because some clues are in hard to spot places. Very well implemented. I hope we can use Oculus touch with it because it would work well Recommended

Monstrum

Movement is a tad tricky but ok. Great visuals and very scary sound. Scary ass game tbh. I get scared just watching youtube vids of it. Havent been brave enough to start it up again after me and nephew played it but i will. Recommended

You can add Pinball FX to the list.

It's firkin awesome. It's as crisp and clear as you'll get on the tech as it is, and it's as real as you'll get to lurching over an actual table.

I've been doing that for over 30 years.

Never been fx's biggest fan because of the arcade like physics, in VR they don't seem to matter. You feel the physical property of every object on the table, it's a total game changer.

Worth a tenner from steam, Zen have put some effort in bringing their game to VR.

Another vote for Google Earth VR. Was a bit dismissive of it at first due to the poor models and textures in most places, but after playing with it some more I'm increasingly blown away by it. Can easily spend an hour or two on it at a time.

I know the maligned term "killer app" has been bandied around for this title, but it really IS that good!

Google Earth VR was the first thing I tried when I used my Vive (and experienced VR) for the first time last night. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the most amazing tech-related experience I've ever had. Randomly, I visited Bryce Canyon, Utah, a couple of months ago and it's one of the featured places on GEVR. Going back there and standing where I was stood in real life, dragging the sun around me to change the time of day..absolutely mind blowing. I really hope VR flourishes and isn't a passing fad cos after only one night playing, I don't want to go back to 2D gaming!

One thing with the Oculus Rift, anyone else find the cable a bit short? Bit OT.

I hope they include some kind of extension with touch controllers as it's barely long enough reach me sitting at my desk, if I have to stand it's just not going to work.

Yep. It's long enough to get me into the centre of my playspace but if I go too far back I start to feel the tension. An extra metre and all would be good. I'm thinking about buying a Vive link box as (anecdotally) it works with the Rift and should reduce that tension. I wish that Oculus would come up with something official though.

USB and HDMI extensions work, though quality of cable is critical. I've had success on a 3m USB extension but had green artifacting on a dodge HDMI extension. Better HDMI extension arrives tomorrow so I'll let you know which ones if the results are good.

Link box only works if it has power. Be aware the replacement link box you can buy doesn't come with the power brick.

Yep, I knew about the lack of power brick. I found a handy post on Reddit that details the adapter size and polarity. One thing I didn't find is what length the link box cables are? I seem to recall someone once saying they're 1m but the memory is vague.

1m or 3ft - good enough for getting the link box onto your desk or front of your PC, but not much else. I got some 3m cables to wire it round to the opposite end and underside of my desk facing my play area. Works really well.

Off road paradise 4x4 VR - Downloaded tonight and done 2hrs almost non stop. It's early access but works well already and worth £8. Visually it looks great and seems pretty well optimised.

Pinball FX2 VR - Good but not sure it's worth the price for only 3 diffent machines. For some reason although the visuals are very good they seem to highlight SDE ore than other games. I would give it a go if you are into Pinball but probably not if you don't have much interest.

Just had a go on Golf Club VR with Rift/Touch. Once I had got the hang of the control system and remembered not to touch the thumb button every few seconds which brings the menu screen up everything was then running quite smoothly.

The game itself works quite well and as someone who use to play quite a lot of real golf albeit quite badly, my VR golf is representative of my real game in more ways than one. I hit my drivers out to the left to compensate for my slice like in real life. I am good with my mid irons but not long irons. Putting is OK'ish.lol Mostly I was really impressed with how my woods mirrored my real life game.

This game although not 100% accurate is pretty darn good and makes playing a golf game a lot more challenging than it ever was on any previous games. I have thrown a couple of clubs in frustration already.lol

If you like golf and want to try out a golf game on the touch controllers this is the closest gaming experience to the real thing so far. Just dont expect to be hitting the ball straight and 300+ yards off the tee.lol Unless you are pretty decent.
