Goodbye S6, Hello...

180ish bhp and 280ish lbft of torque isn't too bad and is perfect for wafting in comfort. I guess you could always remap it if you wanted to. Enjoy it. :)

I've been looking at these and just can't get over the tiny nav with the spacers either side :(

Its daft because I'll probably end up with a Jag XF which has an equally small screen, but the blanks just remind you of the lovely widescreen nav.

Or you could get one with professional nav?

yeah I see what you mean.

The blanking plates would put me off a little, once of those things really.

Once seen, they cannot be unseen!

Will the engine be up to temp after 6 miles in a diesel? I know the 2.2 cdti I drive is circa 15 in terms of the heater blowing at its hottest in the winter

Not a fan of the interior tbh, my dad has a E60 and it has a lovely interior with sports seats as it has the M pack. If i'm being honest though it does look quite comfortable but just looks a bit boring to me.

Lovely car though and BMW probably make the best engines around so fantastic car.

In a few months I'm going from 300hp to 177hp and I'm not really looking forward to it. There's no way I would do it voluntarily!

I did pretty much exactly that, Saab 9-5 aero with abbot racing stage 3 tuning crica 300hp, to a 120d 177bhp company car. I was dreading the powerless until i drove the 120d up to 40mph nothing in it, torque was very similar, above 50mph the saab would have left it for dust though but still, day to day how often do you go above 50 unless on the motorway?

The 520d is a great all round car, its a nice big comfy cruiser.

bloody hell, stage 3?!

Full exhaust including downpipe, 'performance' filter, increased fuel pressure and remap. Makes perfect sense.

Stage 1 is just a remap and Stage 2 a cat back exhaust plus the map.

Yup this ^^ pretty straight forward mods and totally transforms the car, sounded like an aeroplane after they were done with it. 3rd gear pull was addicitve never ceased to put a smile on my face, not a great off the mark car but in gear very quick. sold it with 180k on the clock and ran perfectly.

So... a 1000ish mile update!

I've been driving to and from work, Heathrow a couple of times and up to the Lake District and back once including country lanes up and down hills etc, so a fairly mixed bag of distances. I've averaged about 47mpg over all of this driving which is pretty good when considering the S6 would have been around 19 at the most.

The 8-speed autobox and huge quantities of insulation go a long way to "hide" the 4-cyl diesel engine. The torque is easily enough for the car - moderate to brisk acceleration is about the same as I'd have driven the S6 without feeling like I'm thrashing it. Obviously if I floor it, there is a world of difference, especially above 70mph but this is probably a good thing, I've hit silly, silly speeds in the S6 because it was so enticing/fun... No danger of this now!

In many respects this car is right up there with my W220 S-Class. Its almost the same size but feels a bit bigger inside, it is nearly as comfortable, the AC is almost as good, it has similar features etc etc. The ride is very smooth (compared to the S6 it is like riding a magic carpet!) and the driving dynamics are really an awful lot better than the Audi or Mercedes.

Can I live with the "low" spec? Absolutely. Honestly, even if I'd had a higher spec car in the past (which I haven't really, maybe a car on a par with this) then I guess I might feel like I was missing out but I haven't so I don't miss it at all.

In summary: Happy!

That suprises me given your car history? :p
Fine, I'll bite :p
Heated leather, cruise, electric memory seats, bluetooth..?

I don't have £20k+ to blow on an F10, but if I did it'd have HUD, comfort seats, active cruise..
But even my biggest budget has been less than half that.

Even the £1000 Lolvo had heated memory seats and cruise.
