Google apparently suspending some business with Huawei.

Don't most people buy Android phones to able to install what they like unlike apple?? Still say it's no big deal really plenty of other apps out there.

Nope, most buy them because they're cheaper or because you get a better choice of hardware. I own an Honor 8 Pro and have always had Android smartphones, but I wouldn't even entertain the thought of buying an Android phone that doesn't support the basic Google suite of apps. The Mate 30 is going to be a complete failure if they can't sort something with Google in time for its launch.

Sorry I have to disagree but let's see what happens monday

I'm also not entirely sure if most or any of the popular Google apps will work by installing them from elsewhere, I assume they would need access to Google Play services or Google services Framework.
This is the biggest killer, so many apps require Google Play Services. A phone without a decent app store will never succeed, just look at recent examples.

When Joe Bloggs can't get hold of their banking app, or smarthome app, then they will start to care what OS they have.

I have no idea who John Wu is, but he suggests and implies without explaining and then comes out with a DO NOT BUY recommendation all in capitals. Seems a bit sensational until he clarifies what's going on.

The developer behind Magisk.
If you're running a rooted Android device, chances are Magisk is on there these days. (Standard way to hide root, manage on a per app basis etc.)

Trust what he says :)

Yeah, well via Aliexpress ( Shenzen supplier ) . Just over £800.

I've read the AndroidAuthority wrtite up, I'd go with the fact Huawei did work with LZplay to get around the gapps issue but are sidestepping the fact now as it does seems a bit of dubious move. If there's no gapps in the short term or even long term then that's the way it is. If the phone's a keeper then I guess any Google services I use will have to be via browser.

Now wondering if Microsoft apps (outlook, onedrive etc ) are available on Huawei's on app store, if so then the issue is eased somewhat for me.

They are not on there from what I can see, but you should be able to grab them from APK Mirror and side load

Hmm, will get to work on it when it finally arrives. It was showing as 'shipment information received - Hong Kong' so I thought DHL hadn't even collected it yet but I just had to decipher some garbled voice message from DHL about custom charges ( £27 ). So I've no idea where the bloody thing is lol. Maybe they pre-charge now before collection.

A shame, as the reviews seem pretty good and it potentially gave the device a wider audience. Royal pain for all future Huawei devices I guess.

I'm not overly reliant on Google services, used Meego ( 808) and Sailfish (Jolla) for a while in the past and currently using a Nokia 950 sans gapps so I'm not that concerned. Only issue with those devices Is their age.

Also on the positive side the battery life will be amazing without Google apps drain.
