Anyone else running a custom ROM?

Cyan's gone stable now, its going great with a optional new radio seems to give better battery performance too. :)

Also, someones gone and modded the kernel to 1.113ghz!

Running both as we speak [I finally caved and rooted :D] Seems more scary than it is, especially when you've flashed a few custom ROMs a couple of times :)

I don't see any improvement at 1.113 tbh, a good task killer app is a far better way to improve performance ;)

Do you mean like adding them manually? You can go to contacts and press the menu button and it gives you an option to add them manually there. Or if you mean to add them from a sim card or something, there is an option to import them also.

I must admit, I synced with facebook and it just rammed my contacts list with people I never really speak to much so I've got rid of them. I exported my gmail contacts as a csv file, edited that to get all the data nice and tidy then synced that back in and now it's just to my liking. There is an app that can sync only the pictures from your facebook profile (i.e. not all the contacts too) which is handy, but it is currently being tested for Android 2.0 I think. It's called Syncmypix, hopefully will be available soon.

Does that in any way answer your question mate?!

I can add them manually but they don't show in my contact list.

C5's Gadget Show gave it a disappointing 3G's (3/5) based on poor pic and video quality and the touchscreen/typing issues. Was a lame review as i'd expect from the show which once decided mp3 sounded better than CD but thought I'd share. I still want one

http://fwd.five.tv/gadgets/phones/google-nexus-one

Says 4Gs there.

They wil never give 5Gs to any phone other than the iphone.

Apparently its perfect with no negatives.

Rooting is honestly so easy, this is easier than most to do tbh.

I've not tried that kernel, seems most are doing it coz they get a better PI score.... lol

With the himem, kernel i dont think you even need a task killer. My phones been on for about ages and i still have masses of ram free. :)

I like the Gadget Show but omg, they are so pro Apple is ridiculous, they love anything with that logo on it....

Although to be fair they quite rightly gave the top award in the review (which didn't include iPhone) to the Windows Mobile based HTC HD2 :)

Since when has anyone taken any notice of the gadget show lol that was his opinion on the phones others will differ it was given 3g's last night same as the Milestone and the HD2 was given 4 g's.

I recorded the program so and just looked he says Milestone gets 3 g's as he says " Fast performance can't make up for the gorky looks and the fiddly keybard(refering to the slide down keyboard), then he says" And the Nexus one also gets 3g's touch screen and camera lets it down, and the HTC is the winner with 4g's and its beautifull screen and slick interface, its the closest i have seen yet to a iphone killer.

Like i say gadget show has gone down the drain for me there tests are rubbish for anything they compare i only watch it for Ms Perry.

Thats what i say its a rubbish show for reviews he never really tested it, tries the milestone with they keyboard but never went to the on screen keyboard and test i watch the show but its a joke really, i only really watch to see what tech is coming out and would never buy anything on there advice.

Can anyone who is using this phone on Vodafone let me know what their APN settings look like as I cannot connect to Voda's 3G service. I am currently using:

APN: Internet
Username: web
Password: web

As my login bits. There are a ream of other options which don't make a lot of sense to me - perhaps I need to change some of them?

Cheers :)

From the home screen: Menu > Settings > Wireless & Network > Mobile Networks >Network Operators.

It will say "Searching" for a while before listing all the available networks, either click "Select Automatically" or "Vodafone UK" and it should then say "Registered on Network"

This should fill in your APN list with the correct information from Vodafone

Hope that helps :)

Thanks for that Griffo. I managed to get it working in the end, before trying what you posted, but I have just done what you suggested also.

It seems really really slow. I think I am only connecting via GPRS and not 3G - the notification is just showing a 'G' with the two arrows lighting up. At least I'm getting something at last, but I should be getting onto the 3G network should I not?

Just as an experiment, I downloaded the speedtest app, and got the following:

37kbps down
32kbps up
414 ping

If anyone else gets the chance, could they try out this app and post their results so I know how far off the norm I am (if at all). I verbally agreed a new tariff with Vodafone a couple of days ago - but I presume the cooling off period still applies so if I continue getting these speeds I might move to T mobile instead. If you do post your speeds, could you confirm your operator too. Thanks.

That contacts issue you're experiencing Robert is beyond me. I hadn't tried adding a contact manually, I imported them all over from my sim card/gmail account, but I just tried it then and it worked fine. I presume you've googled the problem to see if anyone else is having the same issue?

hp01jpc are you in a built up area? If so you should be getting 3g or hspda and it will say 3g rather than g :/

Try dialing *#*#4636#*#* and check preferred network type is "WCDMA preferred"

2nd thing to try is check you're running the OTA update which features an improved radio which may help - get it here if it hasn't been delivered http://phandroid.com/2010/02/03/havent-got-your-nexus-one-ota-dont-wait-get-it-now/

3rd thing would be to check you have a 3g sim card not a 2g. This was my issue which limited me to GPRS :( Your network should send you a new sim card if you call and explain it to them

On t-mobile I get 350kbps down and 650kbps up, my friend gets over 1000kbps consistently, up to 4000 on occasion on his Nexus on Vodafone :o

Can someone else confirm their phones Baseband version? I have applied the OTA update, but 3g is a bit dogi for me also.

Firmware: 2.1-update1
My baseband version: 32.19.00.16U_4.02.02.14

Are those correct? I've heard people say they are using the 4.03.00.21_2 radio after the update... maybe thats unofficial though.

Thanks for your help Griffo. I was up on campus today and it connected to the 3G network and speeds were vastly improved, so I can only conclude that the signal is poor where I live and the phone drops to GPRS. This is not a major issue because I can just connect over wifi at home. But it's good to know it is working as it should - even if the coverage is patchy!

Cheers mate :)
