Google Music

'All Access' and 'Instant Mixes'

I've signed up to the All Access trial, but there's a big issue for me.

I loved the 'Instant Mixes' on Google Music as it let me explore my music library.

However, with All Access, the Instant Mixes option based on an individual track has disappeared and have been replaced by 'Radio'. In fact instant mixes based on my library has disappeared altogether, and it's just Radio that's available.

'Radio' is fine in itself, but I also enjoy listening to mixes of my own music library too. I have a pretty eclectic collection and the 'Radio' option seems too full of dross (though it is OK as an option).

How can I bring 'Instant Mixes' or something similar back?

You can choose to "shuffle my library" in the my library section which will play only music you've added to your library (both cloud/streamed and local music) and, well, shuffle it :D

You can also do the same per artist.

it's not quite instant mix, but close. If Google can add (back) this sort of stuff, like playlists based on if you want one for driving, a party, working out etc that would be awesome.

Have to say i do love the ability to set a playlist to sync to my phone so all the songs are downloaded to it, and then being able to browse on my PC and drag tracks into the playlist which are then automatically downloaded to my phone. Will be even better once I pick up a Nexus 7, managing multiple playlists on multiple devices will be a piece of **** :D

That's a good tip! But still not what I'm looking for. The 'shuffle' will play anything in my library, not just those tracks that have a similar vibe to the track I'm listening to.

Same in relation to the 'artist' shuffle - I want to explore tracks from other artists.

Google Play is a great way to listen to my music collection, and Instant Mixes are integral to that.

'All Access' seems to be messing that up :(

The annoying thing is that I'd be prepared to pay for All Access as long as it would let me explore and listen to my own music.

You basically need a radio option where it only plays music in your library, rather than choosing from the entire google music library.

Google have randomly decided that an album I've been listening to for months perfectly fine had to be changed to the censored version :(.

I can understand how it happens when uploading it, and I'm fine with that but it's weird to happen months after uploading it after being uncensored all that time .

What does the music being in the cloud have to do with anything? There are many cloud services with desktop apps (Spotify included). Are you thinking cloud means something different?

Cloud apps AKA web apps. They only use desktop apps to make it easier to transfer data from the desktop to their servers.

I don't really count that as it's a pretty stripped down affair. it doesnt work with offline files, doesnt allow creation of playlists and it doesnt work with all access (so it only plays music in your library)

It's ok other that that so i will concede and say yes it does allow you to play some music at least. This is the mobile site version of course. The desktop site doesnt work at all well on my phone. No audio for starters.....

I don't follow you? If your using Google Music on the desktop you use the webapp and if your using Google Music on your Android device use the Android app from the play store.

Both fully work with offline files and allow you to create playlists... why are you even attempting to use Google Music on your web browser...:confused:

So...what are your expectations here? Remove the word 'cloud' from any official descriptions

I'd expect the same feature set as available in the android app but its very limited in comparison. That's why i don't use it, and i expect why nobody else does either :p

We're talking about desktop computers.

When you said 'they are all about the cloud' I assumed you were talking about google music the service, not the web app on the pc.

As for why would they release a desktop client? I cant see any features missing that need a desktop app. I imagine it would probably be more consistent in use though - it can sometimes be a bit laggy on the PC in my experience, at least when searching for music anyway. But that's stuff I expect will improve over time. It's not as smooth as spotify, for example, which is what most people will be comparing it too.

'Still love it though :)

One think that being a web app does limit is sound output; When i switch from stereo out (desktop speakers) to hdmi (av amp), I have to shut my entire browser down to get it play music using the right output. Not massively annoying but....ok yeah its massively annoying :p

Hmmm not sure I "understand" google music.

So is the music I am playing actually my music? or is it music Google has stored and I stream?
Also I dont like that I add other music to my library when it isnt really so I have a mixture of my own music and other music.

Also the radio - on Spotify you get some bands you have never heard of before on Google it is always the same bands that come if I hit radio.

I prefer the look of it I just think it needs some work.

I will cancel trial soon...
radio should have many stations, or random list of artists you choose from and then pick one and play ...after that it chooses simillaar ones to make a station..with google, you need to find artist first...sometimes I have no idea what I want to listen to..just want to pick something new...random...

and if you go back to same station, it plays same songs everytime..

they need to work on it

because my broadband line is massively rubbish and I can't stream music from the web client! spotify can at least let you select local/offline files when you don't have a good connection - that feature would be what's missing...
at the moment the only way I can use google music on an android device is to download them to play offline - why can't I do the same with my desktop?
