Google Pixel 5

Hello, does anyone have experience of the Google postage warranty service?

After 2 years my battery life is reduced, especially screen on time. The phone is still in warranty, however still works "fine" will they replace the battery or just say "no fault found"?
The last time I done an RMA, they sent a refurbished phone with a purchase amount on the credit card. Sent of my defective unit after I swapped the data. They don't charge your card unless they don't receive your return.

New features are welcome but I'm still here waiting for "Hold for me" to work in the UK!

It took us long enough to receive call screening.

I have a pixel 5 and some how it appears to have managed to get sand/dirt behind the camera lenses.

Is it possible to clean or repair this ?

It's making me pictures look rubbish.

I thought this phone was IP67 rated to stop dust etc

Thanks Ben

With the Pixel 5 support/updates ending in October, how many will continue using the Pixel 5 after this date, into 2024?

The Pixel 8 is rumoured to be smaller than the Pixel 7 so I'm keeping an eye on that. The Pixel 5 will get Android 14 in October so that's still the latest until Android 15 in 2024.

I generally go with life cycles of the pixel, I've gone from a 2 to a P5, So a P8 will be my next upgrade. Generally when support stops. But keeping an eye on it as seem a fair few reports of issues with P7/P7 pro.

My p5 is showing it's age now, slow and poor battery from what it was.

Definitely need an upgrade. P8 if they do a small enough version will be what I go for.

Sad to lose the rear finger print reader but I see now a benefit for the front (I can unlock it whole the phone is in a car holder for instance)

Also sad I will lose this perfect size. It's a shame they don't do a P8 and p8pro and p8a all at the same time, as when the A version comes out, it feels too close in price and worse spec than the non a standard version.

Better bring them all at once each hitting a different place in the market

I loved the finger print reader in my P2, The one in the P5 was always a hindrance. Always having to clean it and my fingers to make it work. I hope whatever is coming in the P8 will be more reliable!

will be underscreen for sure. i get why, as the rear one could break, the underscreen really can't in the same way. plus the tech has got good that it's just as fast now.

the benefit for the rear imo is that it's possible to find it without looking. i unlock my phone when it's being pulled out my pocket.

But will it receive monthly security updates like it currently does, I am guessing not since on the Google site, it states support ends in Oct??

Oh definitely under screen going by all the leaks.
To be fair, I've always preferred the location on the back. Like you say, you can have it unlocked and ready to go by the time it's out your pocket. When it works of course!!

If the P8 is P5 sizing it could be tempting but I'm skeptical of the Tensor chip having been burned (pun intended) in the past with Exynos poor battery and heat issues.

Might just end up swapping the battery in the P5 and keep it going for another year.
