Google Pixel 5

I just don't understand why they didn't just release an all singing and dancing flagship model. I mean they already offer the 4a as a budget model. Apple and Samsung offer a vast model selection - a model for every budget, another model wouldn't have hurt.

I can understand why Android users may move back to iOS - he'll I'd like to move back due to no flagship model but I'm too invested in the Google/nest ecosystem. (Home hubs and minis in every room and nest cams and doorbells).

I'm underwhelmed with all Google products launched in the event - Apple, amazon and Ring feel like they're leaving Google behind.

Yes it's fairly disappointing. And I agree the 4a 5g was fine filling the mid tier. The pixel line is meant to set the standard for other android devices. It just feels mediocre. The new iPhone pros look great, j won't get one but I wish android had that hardware.

Obviously one tech news article isn't an authority but this is certainly the sentiment of what I understood the pixel line to be.
Me too. I'm sure when they want from nexus to pixel this was the intent.

Pixel 5 is understandably not top of the range this time, though I feel its only partly due to covid.

I feel the issue with pixels has been too many gimmicks and forgetting to get some of the basics right and then charging too much. It feels like Google have then thought the reason is because people want more budget prices with decent specs, when in reality I'm sure we'd still pay top price for a pixel, but they need to remove the crud and all these freebies and just smash the basic specs put of the park.

Pixel 5 is much better balanced than the old Nexus 4 and fives. They had terrible screens and cameras but top SoC.

However the choice here to go 5G and mid range SoC instead of 4G and 855 is not one I agree with.

Again, I'm going to skip the 5 as it's not really a worth while upgrade on my Pixel 2XL (for me) I had hoped the Pixel 5 would be better and would have been a bit of a throwback to my old Nexus 5 (Just the 5 bit :D )but hey ho, always next year.

Honestly cannot imagine what the nexus 5 had over the pixel 5?what is missing? In my view, this is the first pixel phone that's like the nexus 5.

I flip flopped and cancelled my pixel 5 order, sticking with my 2xl for now too. Couldn't justify the cost for marginal improvements and a few compromises compared with the 2xl.

I'm not bothered about the soc. I'd just like a bigger screen, decent front firing speakers and more camera sensors with Google's great image processing.

Sorry but that's stupid talk. "Marginal" upgrade to the 2XL which is now unsupported btw. If you were saying it about the 4 then I could see your point.

The screen on the 2xl was a shocker

Jeez fair play to you. I don't know how you've stuck with the 2XL for so long. I'm on my fourth phone since mine :p.

I am also on the 2xl and have been wanting to leave for a fair while now. The 5 has been the only one that's tempted me. 3/4 were both just not quite the phone I'm after.

Tbh with that said, the 5 isn't either as I want the 5xl, so I may not have this for more than a year until the 6

Do you only want another Pixel? I mean there are a plethora of phone out there that are infinitely better than the 2XL.
I do see your point that there maybe haven't been any logical Pixel upgrades since the 2XL - I got a OnePlus 6T as I was so disappointed with the 3/3XL.

The s20 was interesting but it was a no go instantly when they said under screen finger print reader. On the back only for me. Pixel 5 has that.
Understandable. The rear mounted capacitive scanners do make sense on some levels however I got peeved at having to lift my 2XL from the desk or bedside table every time I wanted to unlock it. I actually really liked the side mounted scanner that was on the S10e. I'm not sure if many phones on the market are using that now - I know the Fold 2 is but that's just ever so slightly expensive!

Exactly the same. I was expecting to get the 4xl but compared with other phones on the market at the time it didn't tick the boxes for me. I figured waiting another year might resolve unlock issues and get rid of the massive bezel.

I've been perfectly happy with my 2xl. Only see black crush in the lowest brightness setting. It's a great phone
