Google Pixel 5

Any reviews out? Thinking of getting this for the gf. Should I wait till black Friday for any contract offers, or get it now with the headphones?

Come Black Friday I would expect this to be selling for around £399

I don't see it happening, they will keep the price gap between the 4a 5G big enough not to affect sales at the lower price point. If they sell the 5 for £399, then you'd have a £299 4a 5G and a £149 4a which isn't going to happen.

Just got my shipping notification :), was about to claim the headphones but hasn't been 14 days since the order so will wait until the 15th (as I ordered on the 1st)

Yep, Black due tomorrow. ( Placed 30th btw )

*The IMEI is in the shipment order, so I processed the claim for the headphones. Confirmation email received, will see if I get confirmation in the next two days.

Are you not concerned that you've claimed the promotion before being eligible?

I called my local CPW, apparently they're experiencing a delivery on the 15th to the store. They also currently have the Pixel 5 on display, can play around with it, but its in a plastic case so can't hold it in your hand...

Well, the worst that can happen is they ask me to re-apply.
If I recall there was 4 conditions listed in the claim form -

  1. 14 days since you 'ORDERED'
  2. Claim within 45 days or something ,
  3. Phone has been delivered.
  4. Provide proof of purpose .

By the time the look at the claim, it will have been delivered. All the other conditions they stipulated are met. We'll wait and see though.

This 14 days thing is confused all over, most the Google stuff says from date ordered, every other retailer has the offer as 14 days from receipt of product, which makes more sense as this is the no quibble return period ie it stops you returning a phone after already having claimed the headphones. I think its actually the latter, but as you say, I don't think there is any harm in putting it in.

Btw, I also got my shipping notification today despite my order saying shipping was going to be the 27th, delivery tomorrow, happy about that.

Still confused. So 14 days after it arrives or from ordered ?

Because you could just claim and return the phone and bag some free headphones if it's order date.

Mine is due to be delivered tomorrow, but I'll be at work. I can't yet set my preference, maybe leave it with a neighbour. Can PDP deliver to a collection point on the first attempt?

Mine is being delivered tomorrow too. But I work from home... looking forward to it, other than my iphone 11, this is my newest phone since my Pixel 2xl!

Sorry but that's stupid talk. "Marginal" upgrade to the 2XL which is now unsupported btw. If you were saying it about the 4 then I could see your point.

The screen on the 2xl was a shocker

Sorry to single out your post here, but as another 2XL owner, I agree with the others, and disagree with you.

I do know where you’re coming from, though. On paper, the Pixel 5 is definitely an upgrade in most ways; same size [and very likely better quality] screen in a smaller body, wireless charging, more RAM and storage, 3 more years of updates, extra camera lens, a few other software smarts here and there...

In the end though, it’s about asking what is it that the newer phone will do that the older one won’t, especially when that involves parting with £600...

And for me, the Pixel 2XL is still a more than viable device in 2020. The screen isn’t great, but it’s hardly the disaster everyone paints it out to be, especially for what I use a phone for these days, basically, a bit of casual browsing, take a few photos, do a bit of online banking. I don’t do anything much more than that, and for me, the Pixel 5 doesn’t really do any of those things any better than what I have now, maybe with the exception of photos, but even then, it’s not 3 years worth of progress here, especially without that telephoto lens.

Heart versus head in the end, I do want a new toy, but I don’t want to pay £600 for the pleasure, especially knowing that the novelty will be gone in a week or less. I think that is where the other posters are coming from.

As for the update situation, personally, I think its borderline unacceptable that the Pixel 2 is now unsupported when iPhones are offering at least 5 years of updates. No wonder people are jumping ship.
