Google Pixel 5

I hear Google came out and said it's part of the process that this can happen and it's not an issue, it doesn't affect the water proofing. They are of course happy to 'work with customers not happy with it' or something along those lines.

Some (a few) units have had a pretty large gap on the left side. I believe Google has replaced these.

Most units have a slightly larger gap on the left side than the right side, and I think that's what Google is saying is 'normal'. I think they are refusing to replace these units.

after been screwed around by currys for 3 weeks i got a refund for the 5 and just decided to go with the 4a5g direct from google + i get the bose deal.

my hearing isn't the best and the underscreen speaker for calls is no good to me and plus i dont fancy playing gap roulette either.

Every Pixel, another issue.

So, for those who have had their devices a few weeks now, what is your verdict?

Still on a 2XL here and obviously aware that it's end-of-life now in terms of updates and whatnot, on HUKD they're doing them for £549 + free Nest speaker, which is something I was tempted to buy anyway.

It's a fantastic phone, and if you're coming from a 2XL it'll feel just as quick, but more responsive due to the 90 Hz display and higher touch sampling.

That being said, it's not much of an upgrade - maybe in the battery department but that's it :-) Am I right in thinking that it's even the same camera hardware, sans the visual core for image processing?

Big upgrade to battery life, I basically get 1 hour SoT per 10% of battery life which is outrageous. I'm on 84% so far today and have 1hr 53 mins SoT.

Screen feels like an upgrade from by standard Pixel 2 due to tiny bezels and the full screen feel. Watching Netflix when expanded to fill the whole screen is really enjoyable.

As others say, performance isn't much of an upgrade but my Pixel 2 wasn't slow by any means so I'm more than happy with that.

Thanks guys, it does seem like one of those phones that you can't really judge on its spec sheet alone.

Things I would appreciate coming from the 2XL are the more compact size (but same size screen), wireless charging, smoother screen, more storage and RAM.

I am a little bit disappointed by the lack of telephoto but in reality, the difference between it and those phones that do have it are not as large as I thought (with the exception of those phones with periscope lenses).

I suppose the other issue is it feeling the same as what I've got, but then I'm pretty sure I'm going to look upon Android rivals as downgrades in the OS department and iOS isn't for me.

I received my Google Pixel 5 last Thursday, my over 2-year-old Huawei P20 PRO had been playing up so decided to go for this phone, I love the size! Great phone so far.

You'll be disappointed with the speakers too. I used to play music or even videos when in the shower and crank up the volume on my 2xl and hear fine. P5 fails with this miserably, especially video as I need to put the phone vertically for it to hold against my shampoo bottles but this blocks the 1 OK speaker.

I find the phone too small but I've got used to it. How do people hold this phone when say sat at a sofa? I need to use my right hand little finger to stop the phone from falling down, which aches my finger and also again blocks the speaker.

Camera however is great, battery out of this world. Screen beautiful, finger print reader in the right spot.

I'd still buy this phone today, I just wish it got the speakers and size right.

I've had my P5 for a few days now, and it's going back. I genuinely missed motion sense and face unlock too much. My fingers and pixel FPS's don't get along either, I have quite dry hands so maybe that's it but I had the same issue with the P2XL. I have to redo my prints every few days or they stop working. Photo processing is longer too I've noticed.

Battery and form factor of the P5 is great though.

I kind of expected this so I'm not 100% surprised. It's a shame as I was hoping to love the smaller phone, but there's things I miss to much from the 4XL.

It's a great phone, but not for me.

That's the thing... Never seemed like an upgrade from the 4- too many corners cut to keept prices down but guess if coming from a 2 or 3 it'd be a nice step up.

Agreed, I only ordered it out of curiosity and the fact I'm finding the 4XL feels really big at the moment, like when it's in my pocket for instance. That said all other times I love the size of the screen, which is bigger than the 5's.
If I had an older phone I might well have kept it....
