Google Pixel 6a

There definitely is more competition around this price point now. If camera and the pure Pixel experience matters to you then 6a easily, but something like the Nothing phone seems to be a better all rounder.

That's interesting. For my tastes, MKBHD is becoming a bit of a screen snob. It might align for other people, but I think some people (like me) just can't see the problem with 60hz screens.

My brother said yesterday he was waiting for a price drop in the 6a and would look to buy one, so I might get it ordered and pass it on to him once reviewed.

What's the biggest stock android competitor at this price point, Nokia XR20? Anything else worth considering?

I'm looking to move on from my OnePlus Nord, I want wireless charging mostly so I can just drop the phone on a charging pad when going to bed and not care about cables anymore

Trade in says £90 for my Nord, not great but saves the hassle of selling it

This is a good read from Reddit from someone who has used the phone for 2 weeks.

I'll add some of the interesting comments from this person:

I was listening to music and just browsing Reddit for example, and the phone heated up a lot. This in turn reduced the performance capabilities, so switching between apps became a nightmare quickly. Tensor heats up very quickly, and did on the 6 Pro, too.

No connection issues, modem is about the same as Pixel 6 Pro - a bit subpar in my area. Whatever you've heard of the Pixel 6 series pretty much applies here.

I mean, 60Hz is a massive downgrade because I use high-refresh-rate everything. However, I didn't notice anything that was abnormal for 60Hz, no

XR20 and Nothing Phone are about the only phones in the £250-£400 range with wireless charging and stock android

If you can sacrifice wireless charging there are quite a few options with Stock android - including Motorola Edge 20 Pro (144hz, big storage, 12GB RAM, snapdragon 870)

I could have sworn 6a had wireless charging, I must have been reading the wrong spec sheet.

Ok thanks the 6a is out then, not sure the XR20 is big enough jump in terms of performance but I do like Nokia phones my Nokia 6 was bomb proof. I definitely want wireless charging so I'll read up on the Nokia and the nothing phone but not sure about that either the whole brand is too new to know how reliable they will be

Agreed

I've preordered a 6A, being a fan of the smaller phones, I had the Pixel 1 and 3A as well. Watched some of the reviews, but I think since phones are now pretty much all the same they have to focus of something or there wouldn't be much of a video/channel for them.

Time will tell if I actually like it. I just buy the phone, don't do contracts anymore. I'm on Smarty now and they should support wifi calling on the 6A soon.

Features that would be nice in the 7A:
  • 90Hz
  • Smallest hole punch or notch possible I guess - that used to bother me but less so lately
  • Wireless charging - never had it before, would be nice
Apparently I can get up to £90 for my Pixel 3A so I'll see about that, its in pretty good condition.

When's Google Day? It's bound to be on offer then if you can wait.

I was about to checkout and their site reminded me I can get Google buds free, ok thanks. Doubt I will ever use em. I will need a USB C to female jack for my car though.

Are you me? :D I went from the Pixel 1, to the 3A and am going for the 6A now. Sim only deal as well here, so buying the phone outright works for me. Yes, I am trading my 3A in with the google order. Estimated £90 but time will tell what I get when they look at it. You also get the free pixel ear buds at the moment with each 6A order which is a nice bonus IMO.

My brother wanted one, so he's ordered but I'll get to play with it for a week or so first :) (Traded in my Pixel 4 for £140 - if they give full value)

I've ordered as well. I switched from Android to iPhone to get a smaller device, and can't stand the iPhone. The 6a is about the only reasonably sized mid ranger, even if it's otherwise imperfect. I'll give it a try and if the problems with it are too much, I'll bite the bullet and step up to an s22.

Got £45 on TCB, and £50 from trading in my super old Nexus 4, so at about £300 including the earphones it seems a solid deal!

Great deal.

Holding out for a sub £20 contract for my mother. She's been on the Pixel 2 since 2017 which is running like a champ still.
