Google Pixel 6a

Call it weak willed but it's simply there is that lingering temptation to check up on something you left. Like @hyperfighting I'm separate SIM so completely switched off with no temptation.

MrMobile's review is up now and I think it highlights very well why the 6a is fantastic in its price point.

MrMobile sounded like some desperate salesman trying to persuade me to buy a Ford Edsel. Concentrating on the screen refresh rate a lot. But I agree that its not a deal breaker.

I'd still like a headphone socket. The main things I'm concerned about are battery life and mobile reception.

Once the 6a drops down a lot in price then I'll be tempted. But that review just put me off.

A series typically don’t drop much as they don’t have that fat built into the price like the non-A series.

Mine comes today, going to run it for a week and see how it fairs.

The security patch dropped today, and since then (after deleting my old fingerprint definition and re-doing it) the fingerprint scanner has been working fine, and not opening the phone for any non-registered fingers any more.

Mine still shows June 2022.

Fwiw, the Pixel 6 can be had for £405 on Vodafone if you pay for the device in one go and simply cancel the contract immediately. It'll be unlocked by default also I'm assuming.

Better option if you're willing to go down that route, sit on it and wait and see what the 7 is all about.

It already starts quite low. What is 'a lot'? How low did other A series drop?
£300 ish and I'd be tempted. Though I appreciate that that is unrealistic.

It's basically what will tempt me spend more above the £200 moto phone I bought a couple of years ago and which is still a functional phone.

I should have my 6a later this week, I ordered it from Amazon on Sunday. The earbuds have already shipped, but I may return them for a refund. If so the phone will end up costing me around £330.

My 4a hasn't had the August update yet, so it may have been delayed for all Pixels.

If it’s anything like Google the refund amount is £0.00 for the buds as you won’t have paid for them.

Yeah it's a package deal I would have thought. You can't split it.

Just like the bose headphones thing.

The order shows I bought the 6a for £330.03 and the Buds for £68.97. I have the option to return just the Buds. Whether it goes through is a different story.

I had traded in my Pixel 4, which Google are apparently returning having valued it at £0 due to a damaged screen! The screen was fine when it went! It had a dink on one corner, so maybe part of that dink is on the edge of the screen and that's enough for them to say 'nope'? (I don't think it was though).

Interesting. If it works out then happy days.

Should go through. Although it's a bundle deal, they're effectively separate order items as far as Amazon's concerned. I recently returned a Blue Yeti Mic that came with a Brio 4K camera bundle and they refunded the mic part of the sale no problem.

My buds going back today as a result.

Thanks for letting me know, I'll return them for the refund when they arrive :)

CEX will give me £154 for my mint boxed Pixel 4a, so it will be quite a cheap upgrade to the 6a overall.

I received confirmation I will get the £90 for Pixel 3A recycle so pleased with that.

I'm happy enough with the 6A. I'm not a big phone user though, don't do mobile gaming. I like a good camera and the Google ecosystem although I think I would get a lot of that on any android phone.

The Asus Zenfone 9 seems to be getting good reviews, but mostly about the battery - I must be the only person not bothered about battery :) I have a charger at home, its charges it, when I go to bed has 50% left. The end. If it needed more at work I'd buy a charger for work. Also the end. I am interested in the smaller sized phones though.

I miss the chin coz frankly I have no idea how to operate a phone with gestures :)

I picked a boring case, might put some stickers on it.
