Google Pixel and Pixel XL

Google Assistant will find it's way on to other phones before the end of the year one way or another. What reason could there possibly be that it will only run on the Pixel?

It isn't a selling point when there's a massive market full of phones running Android.

And those speakers vents are not for dual speakers, it's a single speaker!

Hey a hump is one thing, but phones like the S7 have OIS, and are thinner phones, and the camera hump is barely noticeable!

For me the biggest advantage of proper OIS is not in video, but in improved stills in low light.

Can a gyro-based system like on the Pixel do the same? The only mention of it I've seen so far only talks about video stabilisation.

It cannot. You are absolutely correct. OIS will let you shoot maybe 2 stops slower and still get a sharp picture. I doubt EIS can do this. For video though EIS is fine in a phone.

They have got round this by using a bigger sensor to let in more light than anyone else. 1.55um pixels. 1/2.3" sensor - 12MP.

When was the last time the average Joe took his/her phone underwater?

Sincerely from your fellow human.

The iphone's in my family has been on many a water based voyage.

Down the sink, in the bath and into the toilet. If the Pixel is as slippery as my current Iphone 6 then it has a risk of ending up in the same places.

Go on holiday and yep, you are sweating because your £800 phone has been left on the beach or pool un-attended.

I had my finger over the pre-order button last night but I have a niggling suspicion that similar design flaws with the Iphone 6 has been repeated with the Pixel.

I am now keenly awaiting a hands-on opportunity.

Again, this.

Although granted, OIS would definitely help even further with low light shots but saying that, the nexus 5x/6p already take fantastic photos in low light especially with HDR+.

Not sure about the XL, hardware is good but the bezels and general profile of the phone is larger than my OP3 which is putting me off.

Also not a fan of software buttons.

Below shows how much unnecessary bezel the Pixel has - you could have a much smaller phone OR added a bigger screen in that footprint!

LG G3 - 5.5"
PIXEL XL - 5.5"
NOTE 7 - 5.7"
