When I recently joined I was not told by the moderator that in order to be a credible poster here that one had to hold a "slightly negative view of the rumours, build or spec". Is that a new qualification or are you making that up?
I am certainly not trying to convince other posters that a price is right for them, only for me. I have a view that Google set the pricing at Apple levels and I have convinced myself that, as you call it, the build or spec is up to Apple standards. I also mentioned the 15% weakness in the Pound vs the Dollar as part of the reason for the higher pricing since June when the Pound first began to tumble.
What makes me think the build/spec is up to Apple standards? Some of the things I most care about on the phone: the camera, the speed, the battery, the overall design and the software. I believe the phone is therefore high gloss sheen enough to rival Apple but really that sheen is not what I care most about. That makes my view different to yours. Clearly your emphasis on the build and spec is paramount and I respect that.
And it is in the software that I see Google really shining. I had not appreciated what they were trying to achieve before yesterday. The rumours, as you call them, did not address something I call their vision. This is what makes them different to other manufacturers in my opinion. They see a post-hardware world where the intelligence in the computer (Assistant), rather than the machine itself, is the reason to own the device. Same with Home. I am prepared to buy into that vision today, while you are not. This will not be easy to market. How do you "sell" the vision rather than the physical object (Apple approach).
Therefore I politely disagree with your assessment, but that is what makes this Board so much fun.
