Google Pixel and Pixel XL

One thing I've noticed in the video samples is how the EIS can really jolt as the phone moves around.

There's no doubt that when moving the image is very stable, but it then gets to a point where it jumps quite aggressively, and I'm not sure that I prefer the overall effect to the more traditional OIS.

Quite a lot of it going on here, comparison with an S7 about 2:18:

Yikes that's disgusting. Compared to the 6p and its amazingly smoother, but the movement of the pixel is terrible compared to all others. It moves like a robot and jumps all over the place. It reminds me of how birds move their heads randomly and in a jolt like manner. Very disappointing and hopefully software updates will improve that

Had some guy come into work today to discuss phone systems, etc.

He looked at my desk puzzled and asked what phone I had.

When I mentioned the Pixel he seemed genuinely surprised and asked if he could have a closer look! He first thought it was an iPhone and wondered where the home button had gone ;)

Phone seems to be catching peoples eyes, whether that's for good or bad reasons.

Must admit i'm still enjoying it a lot

Went into CPW today to have alook at both Pixel & XL & tbh I'm not that impressed, they are overpriced & offer nothing that would tempt me away from the 6P I currently have.

I still think once the hype surrounding this phone is over, sales will drop off dramatically & the retail price not google store price will tumble.

If I was in the market for a new phone and had a choice between the S7 Edge or the Pixel XL, I actually go with the S7 edge as it cheaper and offers a lot more for your money that what the Pixel does minus the quick android updates mind.

...

Since it's launch i've not seen it advertised on TV, seen no posters of it and my son popped in his local CPW and the displayed models had been removed..

Head over to android on reddit and all the news is about the xiaomi mix... pixel? old news.. :)

They really should have hedged their bets, instead of pooping all over the nexus customer base.

I've seen Pixel ads on TV a number of times now. Our local CPW has a large display advertising Pixel as well as EE stores. You must go around with your eyes and ears closed.

Nexus was only ever a test bed for Googles ambitions in hardware. The experiment had come to its logical conclusion and from those results we now have the Pixel.

You really have to accept the Nexus experiment is now finished and move on. If you don't like Pixel, well no one is making you buy one.

I note that Google has acknowledged the camera flare effect as an issue and is working on a software fix according to news reports. A number of users aren't happy about this software fix saying it's won't be as good as a hardware fix.

Dropped mine and smashed the back glass, still works but so frustrating. I've never done before as I'm so careful, especially as I was looking at cases to buy last night!

^^^ i feel for you. i dropped my 6P after owning it for about 1 month. the slippery bugger jumped straight out of my pocket. it scratched only the sides and i was so gutted, so can only feel for you given the expensive of the Pixel.

is there any faults with the phone you can think of as google will swap this for a brand new one should it have any faults ;)

Or create one ;) ;) ;)

Also just picked up my Pixel, so far it feels amazing, screen looks really good, phone is really fast, like iPhone fast (however I doubt the SD card is close and thus games and bigger apps will laggy behind with loading speed). Overall really happy. I tried my friends XL and its manageable in 1 hand but not very comfortable ;).

I've noticed now when I use 'remind me when I get home...' it no longer does. I guess tomorrow I can test the new Google support!

Also, one very big annoyance for me, I can't use my phone for my store card (and discount card) now. My Note 5 apparently had Mobeam, the Pixel does not :( I'll ask in the apps thread, but doubt there's a solution to that.

Yes, it's buggy. I'm having to implement do not disturb manually even though it's set to kick in at 22:00 automatically.

I also filmed some UHD (4K) video earlier and the quality was horrendous.

What's the best way for me to share a video clip? I think my phone will need to be returned but I don't want to jump in too quick in case I've got settings wrong.

** EDIT **

Here's a one minute clip. You'll probably have to download it to watch it because if it streams then you won't see the video as it should be. For that reason, I've set the link to prompt download.

It zooms in and out, judders all over the place, the image quality is really bad.
